DICMF is proud to open the 2024 iteration of Ireland’s longest-

running chamber music festival with an ambitious new work for
clarinet and string quartet by Ann Cleare. Commissioned by DICMF,
with funds from The Arts Council, the work takes its inspiration from
the iconic surroundings of Dublin’s Richmond Barracks, a building of
historical importance with over 200 years of military, political and
social history located in Inchicore.

A recipient of a prestigious 2019 Ernst von Siemens Composer Prize,

Ann Cleare is one of Ireland’s most celebrated and innovative
compositional voices. The world première of her work will be
performed by acclaimed musicians, clarinettist Carol McGonnell and
JACK Quartet.

All acknowledged champions of new music and deeply committed

to commissioning new works, these exceptional musicians embrace
close collaboration with the composers whose works they perform,
leading to a radical embodiment of the technical, musical and
emotional aspects of their work.

Ruth Crawford Seeger’s String Quartet 1931 “a significant contribution

to the canon of American modernism” (New York Times), Kaija
Saariaho’s Duft, commissioned by the Ernst von Siemens Music
Foundation for the International Clarinet Competition Freiburg, and

Killruddery is a great historic house of Ireland. The magnificent 800-acre estate in Co Wicklow is a sustainable,
bio-diverse farm that includes flowering woodland, painterly formal 17th century gardens, a high-hedge sylvan
theatre long ponds and a walled garden.The concert takes place in the Orangery, which was designed and built
by William Burn in 1852 after the fashion of the Crystal Palace in England.

The Dublin International Chamber Music Festival has been a jewel in Ireland’s cultural crown for over 50
years with great music, great musicians and great buildings at the heart of its activities. The Festival’s
reputation for creative programming, the espousal of international artists and promotion of Irish
musicians, place the Festival strongly in Ireland’s music landscape and underpin it as a much-loved Friends’ Application Form
annual event.
The loyalty and support of Friends are the life-blood of any arts event and without the loyalty and
