DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
CAUTION: Before disassembling the unit, you
MUST put it into SHIP mode using the “sh” TAP
command so that the battery is not putting out any
power. Failure to do so may result in damage to
the unit. This must be done unless the unit is dead
and you cannot communicate with it via TAP. Refer
to pages 29 and 30 for TAP information. Verify
the unit does not respond to a keypress after the
command.

1. Handle Removal
Note: You must first remove the handle in order to
be able to disassemble the unit.

1.1 Using a small, flat tool, such as a spudger, lift

up on the underside of the handle bushing and
carefully pull it outward to release it. Take care to
not mark the top cap plastic. See photos at right.

1.2 Move the handle so that it is toward the front of

the product, toward the multi-function button.

Slightly twist the handle, while applying outward

pressure to allow the handle to be removed.

Note: The handle has a plastic mounting tab that

is keyed to lock it into the product. Twist the handle
to allow the mounting tab to clear the internal
mounting plate, allowing it to be removed. See
photos at right.

1.3 Repeat process to remove the other side of the

handle.

19
DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
2. Top Cap Removal

2.1 Perform procedure 1. Once the handle is

removed, if you look into the handle opening,
you will see two 5-lobe security screws, one
on each side. Using a 15 IPR Wera security
bit, Bose part number, 730985-001S, remove
the two security screws.

2.2 Once the security screws are removed,

you can gently lift off the top cap. Take care to
not damage the ribbon cable that connects to
the Main PCB, located under the top cap. You
can unplug the ribbon cable from the Main
PCB at this point if you like.

3. Main PCB Removal

3.1 Perform procedure 2.

3.2 Remove the three screws that secure the

top cap sealing plate to the top cap. Lift out
the top cap sealing plate.

3.3 The Main PCB and the NFC PCB are

mounted to the top of the top cap sealing
plate.

3.4 Remove the one screw located in the

middle of the NFC PCB. Lift off the Main/NFC
PCB subassembly.
Important Re-assembly Note: Input serial
number and set product color on new Main
PCB using TAP commands on page 28.

4. NFC PCB Removal

4.1 Perform procedure 3.

4.2 The NFC board has a board mounted

connector located on the bottom of the board
that connects it to the Main PCB. See photo
bottom right. Lift the NFC PCB straight off of
the Main PCB to remove it.
Re-assembly Note: If you are installing a
new NFC PCB, you will also need to order a
microphone filter and ferrite backer as well.
See photos at right. Refer to the Main Parts
List for part numbers for these items.

20
DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
5. Grille Removal

5.1 Perform procedure 2 to remove the top

cap.

5.2 Once the top cap is removed, you can

remove the grille. Lift off the grille.

6. Bottom Cap Removal

6.1 Carefully peel off the bottom foot.

6.2 Using a 10 IPR 5-lobe security bit, Bose

part number 767493-001S, remove the four
screws that secure the bottom cap.

6.3 Lift off the bottom cap.

Note: The product serial number is laser
engraved on the foot. In order to re-use the
same foot, remove the old adhesive from the
foot and use a new PSA adhesive ring, Bose®
part number 799365-001S to re-secure the foot
to the bottom cap after repair.

7. Power PCB / Battery Subassembly

Removal

7.1 Perform procedure 6.

7.2 Make a note of the locations of the two

pink thermal pads on top of the Power PCB.
Lift them off and retain them for re-use.

7.3 Lift up the locking tab securing the ribbon

cable at J501 on the Power PCB. Disconnect
the ribbon cable.

7.4 Unplug the transducer wiring harness at

J301.

21
DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
7.5 Lift up on the black locking tab at the back
of connector J502. See photo at bottom of
page 21. Disconnect the USB/Aux in ribbon
cable.

7.6 Remove the four screws that secure the

Power PCB / Battery subassembly to the
bottom cover. Lift out the subassembly.

8. Battery Removal

8.1 Perform procedure 7.

8.2 Unsolder the Power PCB from the battery

and charging connector at the eight locations
along the center-line of the PCB. Refer to the
photo at right.

8.3 Remove the three screws that secure the

Power PCB to the battery bracket.

8.4 Lift off the Power PCB.

9. USB / Aux in Connector Removal

9.1 Perform procedure 6 to remove the bottom

cap.

9.2 Perform steps 7.5 and 7.6 to remove the

Power PCB / Battery subassembly.

9.3 Remove the two screws that secure the

USB / Aux connector to the bottom cap.

9.4 Lift the connector off of the two locating

posts and lift it out of the bottom cap.

22
DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
10. Transducer Removal

10.1 Perform procedure 6 to remove the

bottom cap.

10.2 Perform steps 7.2 to 7.4 to disconnect

the Power PCB / Battery subassembly
from the rest of the product. Lift off the
subassembly.

10.3 Remove the four screws that secure the

acoustic deflector assembly to the enclosure
Lift off the deflector assembly.
Note: Do not remove the four silver color
screws that secure the metal plate. It is not
necessary to remove them for this procedure.

10.4 Once the deflector assembly is removed,

you can lift the transducer out of the
enclosure.

10.5 Make a note of the wiring configuration

and disconnect the wires from the transducer.

11. Passive Radiator Removal

11.1 Perform procedure 5 to remove the grille.

11.2 Remove the four screws that secure the

passive radiator to the enclosure. Lift off the
passive radiator.

TERA TERM COMMAND PROMPT SETUP
Instead of using PolyComm to issue TAP commands to the SoundLink speaker, Tera Term software
(version 4.73 or above) can be used. Below are the steps required to use Tera Term to communicate with
the SoundLink speaker.

1. Place the following files into the c:\root directory of the computer.
a. hidDfu.dll
b. hidtool.exe

Note: These files can be found on the SoundLink Revolve product page on the Bose Service web site.

2. Connect the small end of the USB cable to the speaker and the large end to the computer.

3. On the computer, open the Run dialog box.

4. In the address box, type the location of the file

followed by “tap” - c:\hidtool.exe tap

5. Click OK. A window will flash by.

Note: The hidtool must be run before running

TeraTerm. If this action is not performed, TAP will
not function. The hidtool.exe file must be run before
running TAP.

6. Open Tera Term.

7. Select Serial as the new connection type and

select the Bose TAP Interface COM port.

8. Go to Setup / Serial Port and enter the COM

port settings as follows:
Baud Rate - 115,200
Data Bits - 8
Stop Bits - 1
Parity - none
Flow Control - none

9. Go back into the Setup window and select

Terminal. Check Local echo.

10. You should now have a “>” prompt where you

can enter TAP commands. If not, hit <carriage
return> a few times. See below.
