Forms of Learner-Centered Classroom

A well-designed utilization of classroom is of utmost necessity if the aim is to

be able to manage all learning activities to a successful completion.
A common problem, sometimes the most common, that beginning teachers
faces poor classroom management.
 Classroom management
-It is not yet teaching, yet it is pre-requisite to teaching.
-it is administration or direction of activities with special reference to
such problems as discipline, democratic techniques, use and care of supplies
and reference materials, the physical features of classroom, general house-
keeping, and the social relationships of pupils.

A classroom managers, we manage resources to facilitate learning.

3 M’s to facilitate learning
1. Moment - Time
2. Materials – Teaching Materials
3. Man – Physical features like desks and tables, and the learners

 Furniture Arrangement
The physical features in the classroom must be located in areas where
the contents could be viewed well and be made available for use.

The following are the physical features of the classroom

That must be properly arranged:
 Rooms look spacious and orderly
 Furniture such chairs and tables for demonstrations or display
must be positioned appropriately.
 Exhibit shelves are either permanently pinned to the wall or are
made to stand at the sides.
 White board for writing and clarifying lesson discussions,
together with bulletin boards, are available for posting
important messages and outstanding pieces of students work, art
and illustrations.

 Seating Arrangement
The seating arrangement deserves foremost consideration since the
students stay in each at the longest time during the day. They either remain
seated if there is a lecture demonstration or leave every now and then to
gather the materials needed for an experiment or to operate a single
equipment.
Seating plans within the classroom allow teachers to manage their
students and class activities more effectively.

 Physical Condition of the Classroom

The following are the Physical Conditions of the Classroom that must
be observed and maintained for neatness inside and outside of the room:
 Clean rooms, hallways and surroundings
 The teacher should schedule who is responsible for their
neatness on a regular basis.
 In case of accidental spills the students should be trained to mop
or wash the area immediately.
 Always erase the board after use
 Avoid slippery floors, rickety chairs and old furniture
 Proper lighting and ventilation must be provided and maintained
for everybody’s comfort.
 Noise and discipline problems in the physical environment can be
avoided in an orderly and well-managed classroom.

The Physical Environment of the classroom should be fostering as it

plays a major role in molding student’s behavior and creating a happy
learning atmosphere.

A conducive learning environment provides conditions that make a

student easy to do their work along with promoting their social, mental,
physical and emotional well-being.
