Assignment 3/4/24 Design2_2024 ANSWERS (2 decimal places)

5.1
Leader (1): ________________________________ Liveload = KN
Members: 203
(2) __________________________________ cap Pu = KN
(3) __________________________________ 144 (use square column)
(4) __________________________________ dimension = mm
(5) __________________________________ n= pcs
cap Pu = KN
201
dimension = mm
n= pcs
Solve the following problems. cap Pu = KN
cap Mu = KNm
I. Investigation of tied column 5.2
5.1, 203 dimension = mm
II. Design of tied column n= pcs
144, 201, 5.2, 5.3, 5.7 cap Pu = KN
III. Investigation of spiral column 5.3
5.4 dimension = mm
n= pcs
Each person must be assigned to solve at least cap Pu = KN
one problem in one page. Then leader will write 5.7 (use square column)
the answers in this page and attach the dimension = mm
solutions at the back. Write respective name n= pcs
on each paper. cap Pu = KN
5.4
cap Pu = KN

Problems:
5.1 Investigate a tied column 450x450mm that is reinforced with 8-25mm 415MPa rebars.
Find safe liveload if axial deadload is 820KN. Use f'c = 21MPa. Check steel ratio.
203 A rectangular column measuring 250x400mm is reinforced with 4-25mm and 2-16mm rebars.
Steel and Concrete are 275MPa and 22MPa respectively. Find the ultimate Capacity of column.
144 Design a rectangular tied column to support a dead load of 650KN and live load of 800KN.
Use steel ratio of 2%. Concrete and Steel are 28MPa and 400MPa respectively. Use 20mm rebars.
Dimension should be in increment of 10mm. Check steel ratio, find cap Pu. Check clear spacing between
rebar and spacing of 10mm ties.
201 Design a rectangular tied column to support a dead load of 650KN and live load of 800KN. One side is
300mm fixed. Concrete and Steel are 28MPa and 400MPa respectively. Use 28mm rebars
and 10mm ties. Dimension should be in increment of 10mm. Trial P = 3%
Check steel ratio and find cap.Pu then check clear spacing between rebar and spacing of ties, find cap.Mu.
5.2 Design a square tied column to support a dead load of 575KN and live load of 770KN. Concrete
and Steel are 27.6MPa and 414MPa respectively. Use 28mm rebars and 10mm ties. Try 3% steel ratio.
Dimension should be in increment of 5mm. Check actual steel ratio, find axial capacity and spacing of ties.
5.3 Design a square tied column to support a dead load of 655KN and live load of 540KN. Concrete
and Steel are 20.7MPa and 276MPa respectively. Use 22mm rebars and 10mm ties.Try 3% steel ratio.
Dimension should be in increment of 5mm. Check actual steel ratio, find axial capacity and spacing of ties.
5.7 Design a rectangular tied column to support a dead load of 800KN and live load of 650KN.
Concrete and Steel are 21MPa and 415MPa respectively. Use 25mm rebars and 10mm 275MPa ties.
Dimension should be in increment of 5mm. Clear cover is 30mm and use trial steel ratio of 2.5%.
Check steel ratio, find axial capacity and spacing of ties.
5.4 Calculate the ultimate axial load capacity of a round spiral column having a fixed diameter
of 450mm reinforced with 6-25mm rebars. Steel and concrete are 345MPa and
34MPa respectively. Check steel ratio.
