Set-up:
1) Set-up the RS-232 communication cable and Procomm Setting on personal computer
a. Verify the RS-232 Cable configuration.

b. Verify Procomm Settings.

2) Connect the RS-232 cable and open Procomm Plus 4.8


a. Connect the RS-232 Cable;
i. Plug the DB9 connector to the RS-232 port on the Personal Computer.
ii. Plug the DB25 connector to the RS-232 port on to the port on the machine panel.
The DB25 should be connected to CH1 of the SA21-1 or -2 cables on the QX522.
** SA21-1 and SA21-2 Cable Diagrams are listed on the last pages.

b. Open Procomm Plus 4.8


On the personal computer
i. Click on the Start, Programs, Procomm Plus, Procomm Plus

c. Verify the ‘Quick Select Line’ on the Procomm Plus Window


i. Click on View and check ‘Quick Select Line’
The ‘Quick Select Line’ is displayed on the bottom of the Procomm Window.
The ‘Quick Select Line’ should display VT-100, ASCII, direct connect-COM1, 9600, E72

3) Set-up the M520 series I/O parameters


a. Access the I/O Parameters;
i. Press the [DIAGN IN/OUT] Function Select Key
ii. Press the [MENU] Menu Key two times
iii. Press the [PARAM] Menu Key
You should see [I/O BASE PARAM] on the upper-left and page (1/5) on the upper-right of the NC screen.

b. Set DATA IN for Port 1 (CH1) and Device 0;


On the [I/O BASE PARAM] page (1/5)
i. Press [01], [>]cursor, [1] then [INPUT], Set the port
ii. Press [0] then [INPUT], Set the device

c. Set DATA OUT for Port 1 (CH1) and Device 0;


On the [I/O BASE PARAM] page (1/5)
i. Press [03], [>]cursor, [1] then [INPUT], Set the port,
ii. Press [0] then [INPUT], Set the device,

You should see the following:

d. Set the Device 0 Parameters;


First Access the I/O Parameters then press [>] Page Key.
On the [I/O DEVICE PARAM (1)] page (2/5)
i. Press [0], [>] cursor, [1], [>] cursor, [MEA] then [INPUT], Set the Device Name,
ii. Press [1] then [INPUT], Set the Baud Rate to 9600BPS;
iii. Press [3] then [INPUT], Set the Stop Bit to 2;
iv. Press [0] then [INPUT], Set the Parity Effective to ‘not added’;
v. Press [0] then [INPUT], Set the Even Parity to ‘Even’;
vi. Press [3] then [INPUT], Set the Character Length to 8-bits;
vii. Press [0] then [INPUT], Set the Term. Type ‘at the EOR code’;
viii. Press [0] then [INPUT], Set the Code 1;
ix. Press [0] then [INPUT], Set the Code 2;
x. Press [0] then [INPUT], Set the Rewind Code;
xi. Press [3] then [INPUT], Set the Handshake to ‘DC’ code;
xii. Press [1] then [INPUT], Set the DC Code Parity to ‘no parity’;
xiii. Press [>] Page Key, Access page (3/5);

On the [I/O DEVICE PARAM (2)] page (3/5)


xiv. Press [0], [>] cursor, [1], [>], [0] then [INPUT], Set the DC2/DC4 Output to ‘none’;
xv. Press [1] then [INPUT], Set the CR Output to ‘add’;
xvi. Press [0] then [INPUT], Set the EIA Output to ‘ISO’;
xvii. Press [0] then [INPUT], Set the Title Feed Out to ‘200’;
xviii. Press [0] then [INPUT], Set the Parity V to ‘Do not check’;
xix. Press [90] then [INPUT], Set the Time Out to 90 seconds;
xx. Press [0] then [INPUT], Set the RST Ignore to ‘valid’;

Disable Edit Locks:
1) Verify that the edit switch on the operation panel is set to OFF

2) Verify and set the Edit Lock B Parameter on the Process Parameter Screen
a. Access page (2/2) the Control Parameter;
i. Press the [TOOL/PARAM] Function Select Key
ii. Press the [MENU] Menu Key
iii. Press the [CONTROL] Menu Key
iv. Press the [>] Page Key
You should see [CONTROL PARAMETER] on the upper left and page (2/2) on the upper right of the NC screen.

b. Verify and remove highlight of #40 EDIT LOCK B parameter;


First access page (2/2) of the Control Parameter.
i. View and verify if parameter #40 is highlighted.
** You will need to set this back to the original setting when completed.

* If #40 EDIT LOCK B is highlighted then perform then


ii. Press [40], then [INPUT], Set the #40 to ‘edit’;

* If #40 EDIT LOCK B is not highlighted then move to next step


(Verify and set Edit Lock C Parameter in the Machine Parameters)

3) Verify and set the Edit Lock C Parameters on the Machine Parameter Screen
a. Access the Machine Parameter Screen;
i. Press the [DIAGN IN/OUT] Function Select Key
ii. Press the [PLC-I/F] Menu Key
iii. Press the [1001], [>]cursor two times, [M], then [INPUT]
iv. Press the [TOOL PARAM] Menu Key
You should see [BASE SPEC. PARAM] on the upper left and page (1/10) on the upper right of the NC screen.

b. Verify and change the #7 edlk_c parameter;


First access the Machine Parameter then press [>] Page Key four times to page (5/10).
i. View and write down the current value of #7

* You will need to set this back to the original value when completed.
ii. Press [7], [>] cursor, [0] then [INPUT], Set the #7 to ‘Edit’;

Output and Input of User Data
1) Output of User Data - Programs, Tool Data, Common Variables and Macro Programs
a. Access the DATA OUTPUT screen
i. Press the [DIAGN IN/OUT] Function Select Key,
ii. Press the [MENU] Menu Key,
iii. Press the [OUTPUT] Menu Key
You should see [DATA OUTPUT] on the upper left-side of the screen.

b. Output all Programs


First Access the DATA OUTPUT screen on the M520A control
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file
i. Press Ctrl+Alt+4 on the personal computer (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
ii. Type in a file name such as M520APrograms (it should save it as a .txt file)
iii. Click Save
On the M520A, DATA OUTPUT screen;
iv. Press [1], [>] cursor, [ALL], then [Input], Output all Programs;

c. Output a single Program (For example program number 123)


First Access the DATA OUTPUT screen on the M520A control
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file
i. Press Ctrl+Alt+4 on the personal computer (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
ii. Type in a file name such as Program123 (it should save it as a .txt file)
iii. Click Save
On the M520A, DATA OUTPUT screen;
iv. Press [1], [>] cursor, [123], then [Input], Output programs number 123;

d. Output a range of program (For example programs between 123 through 789)
First Access the DATA OUTPUT screen on the M520A control
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
i. Press Ctrl+Alt+4 on the personal computer
ii. Type in a file name such as M520APrograms2 (it should save it as a .txt file)
iii. Click Save
On the M520A, DATA OUTPUT screen;
iv. Press [1], [>] cursor, [123], [>] cursor,[789] then [Input], Output programs number 123 through 789;

e. Output all Tool Data


First Access the DATA OUTPUT screen on the M520A control
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
i. Press Ctrl+Alt+4 on the personal computer
ii. Type in a file name such as M520ATools (it should save it as a .txt file)
iii. Click Save
On the M520A, DATA OUTPUT screen;
iv. Press [2], [>] cursor, [ALL], then [Input], Output tool data;

f. Output all Common Variables


First Access the DATA OUTPUT screen on the M520A control
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
i. Press Ctrl+Alt+4 on the personal computer
ii. Type in a file name such as M520AVariables (it should save it as a .txt file)
iii. Click Save
On the M520A, DATA OUTPUT screen;
iv. Press [5], [>] cursor, [ALL], then [Input], Output the common variables;

g. Output all Macro Programs

On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)

ii. Type in a file name such as M520AMacros (it should save it as a .txt file)
iii. Click Save
On the M520A, DATA OUTPUT screen;
iv. Press [30], [>] cursor, [ALL], then [Input], Output the macro programs;

2) Input of User Data - Programs, Tool Data, Common Variables and Macro Programs
a. Access the DATA INPUT screen
i. Press the [DIAGN IN/OUT] Function Select Key
ii. Press the [MENU] Menu Key, then [MENU] Menu Key
iii. Press the [INPUT] Menu Key
You should see [DATA INPUT] on the upper left-side of the screen.

b. Input all Programs


First Access the DATA INPUT screen on the M520A control
On the M520A, DATA INPUT screen;
i. Press [1], [>] cursor, then [Input], Input all Programs;
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
ii. Press Ctrl+Alt+3 on the personal computer
iii. Choose the file such as M520APrograms (saved earlier as a .txt file)
iv. Click Open

c. Input a single Program (For example program number 123)


First Access the DATA INPUT screen on the M520A control
On the M520A, DATA INPUT screen;
i. Press [1], [>] cursor, then [Input], Input a single program;
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
ii. Press Ctrl+Alt+3 on the personal computer
iii. Choose the file such as Program123 (saved earlier as a .txt file)
iv. Click Open

d. Input all Tool Data


First Access the DATA INPUT screen on the M520A control
On the M520A, DATA INPUT screen;
i. Press [2], [>] cursor, then [Input], Input all Tools;
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
ii. Press Ctrl+Alt+3 on the personal computer
iii. Choose the file such as M520ATools (saved earlier as a .txt file)
iv. Click Open

e. Input all Common Variables


First Access the DATA INPUT screen on the M520A control
On the M520A, DATA INPUT screen;
i. Press [5], [>] cursor, then [Input], Input all Common Variables;
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
ii. Press Ctrl+Alt+3 on the personal computer
iii. Choose the file such as M520AVariables (saved earlier as a .txt file)
iv. Click Open

f. Input all Macro Programs


First Access the DATA INPUT screen on the M520A control
On the M520A, DATA INPUT screen;
i. Press [30], [>] cursor, then [Input], Input all Macro Programs;
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
ii. Press Ctrl+Alt+3 on the personal computer
iii. Choose the file such as M520AMacros (saved earlier as a .txt file)
iv. Click Open

Stop PLC, Output and Input Maintenance Information
1) Stop the PLC to backup Maintenance Data
a. Prepare the machine
i. Command each axis to machine zero
ii. Press [RESET]
iii. Press the Emergency Stop Button

b. Access the Bit Select Screen


i. Press the [TOOL/PARAM] Function Select Key
ii. Press the [MENU] Menu Key two times
iii. Press [PLC]
iv. Press [>] Page Key eight times to page (9/10)
You should see [BIT SELECT] on the upper left-side and page (9/10) on the upper right-side of the NC screen.

c. Enable the PLC On-board Function


First Access the Bit Select screen.
View and write down the current value of #51 bit 0.
** You will need to set this back to its original value.
i. Press [51], [>] cursor eight times, [1] (under bit-0), then [INPUT], Enable the PLC On-board function;

d. Access the 4RUN/SP screen


i. Press the [F0] Function Key
ii. Press the [MENU] Menu Key
iii. Press the [FILE] Menu Key
iv. Press the [4RUN/SP] Menu Key

e. Stop the PLC


i. Press [1], then [INPUT], Stop the PLC;

2) Output of Maintenance Data – Parameters, ALL1, ALL2 & ALL3


a. Access the DATA OUTPUT screen
i. Press the [DIAGN IN/OUT] Function Select Key
ii. Press the [MENU] Menu Key, then <MENU> Menu Key
iii. Press the [OUTPUT] Menu Key
You should see [DATA OUTPUT] on the upper left-side of the screen.

b. Output all Parameters


First Access the DATA OUTPUT screen on the M520A control
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
i. Press Ctrl+Alt+4 on the personal computer
ii. Type in a file name such as M520AParameters (it should save it as a .txt file)
iii. Click Save
On the M520A, DATA OUTPUT screen;
iv. Press [3], [>] cursor, [ALL], then [Input], Output all Parameters;

c. Output ALL1 Maintenance Data


First Access the DATA OUTPUT screen on the M520A control
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
i. Press Ctrl+Alt+4 on the personal computer
ii. Type in a file name such as M520AALL1 (it should save it as a .txt file)
iii. Click Save
On the M520A, DATA OUTPUT screen;
iv. Press [99], [>] cursor, [ALL1], then [Input], Output ALL1 Maintenance Data;

d. Output ALL2 Maintenance Data


First Access the DATA OUTPUT screen on the M520A control
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
i. Press Ctrl+Alt+4 on the personal computer
ii. Type in a file name such as M520AALL2 (it should save it as a .txt file)
iii. Press Save
On the M520A, DATA OUTPUT screen;
iv. Press [99], [>] cursor, [ALL2], then [Input], Output ALL2 Maintenance Data;

e. Output ALL3 Maintenance Data


First Access the DATA OUTPUT screen on the M520A control
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
i. Press Ctrl+Alt+4 on the personal computer
ii. Type in a file name such as M520AALL3 (it should save it as a .txt file)
iii. Press Save
On the M520A, DATA OUTPUT screen;
iv. Press [99], [>] cursor, [ALL3], then [Input], Output ALL3 Maintenance Data;

3) Input of Maintenance Data – Parameters, ALL1, ALL2 & ALL3


a. Access the DATA INPUT screen
i. Press the [DIAGN IN/OUT] Function Select Key
ii. Press the [MENU] Menu Key, then [MENU] Menu Key
iii. Press the [INPUT] Menu Key
You should see [DATA INPUT] on the upper left-side of the screen.

b. Input all Parameters


First Access the DATA INPUT screen on the M520A control
On the M520A, DATA INPUT screen;
i. Press [3], [>] cursor, then [Input], Input all Parameters;
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
ii. Press Ctrl+Alt+3 on the personal computer
iii. Choose the file such as M520AParameters (it should save it as a .txt file)
iv. Click Save

c. Input ALL1 Maintenance Data


First Access the DATA INPUT screen on the M520A control
On the M520A, DATA INPUT screen;
i. Press [99], [>] cursor, [ALL1], then [Input], Input ALL1 Maintenance Data;
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
ii. Press Ctrl+Alt+3 on the personal computer
iii. Choose the file such as M520AALL1 (it should save it as a .txt file)
iv. Click Save

d. Input ALL2 Maintenance Data


First Access the DATA INPUT screen on the M520A control
On the M520A, DATA INPUT screen;
i. Press [99], [>] cursor, [ALL2], then [Input], Input ALL2 Maintenance Data;
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
ii. Press Ctrl+Alt+3 on the personal computer
iii. Choose the file such as M520AALL2 (it should save it as a .txt file)
iv. Press Save

e. Input ALL3 Maintenance Data


First Access the DATA INPUT screen on the M520A control
On the M520A, DATA INPUT screen;
i. Press [99], [>] cursor, [ALL3], then [Input], Input ALL3 Maintenance Data;
On the personal computer, Set-up Procomm to send a file (make sure the Procomm Window is active)
ii. Press Ctrl+Alt+3 on the personal computer
iii. Choose the file such as M520AALL3 (it should save it as a .txt file)
iv. Press Save

4) Restart the PLC


a. Access the Bit Select Screen
i. Press the [TOOL/PARAM] Function Select Key
ii. Press the [MENU] Menu Key three times
iii. Press [PLC]
iv. Press [>] Page Key four times to page (5/6)
You should see [BIT SELECT] on the upper left-side and page (5/6) on the upper right-side of the NC screen.

b. Access the 4RUN/SP screen


i. Press the [F0] Function Key
ii. Press the [MENU] Menu Key
iii. Press the [FILE] Menu Key
iv. Press the [4RUN/SP] Menu Key

c. Restart the PLC


First access the 4RUN/SP screen
i. Press [0], then [INPUT], Stop the PLC;

d. Cycle Power to the Machine


i. Power OFF the M520A control and Main Circuit Breaker
ii. Power ON the Main Circuit Breaker and M520A control.

Set all changes back to original setting
1) Set the Edit Lock B Parameter to its original setting
a. Access the Control Parameter;
i. Press the [TOOL/PARAM] Function Select Key
ii. Press the [MENU] Menu Key
iii. Press the [CONTROL] Menu Key
You should see [CONTROL PARAMETER] on the upper left and page (1/4) on the upper right of the NC screen.

b. Verify and change the #40 EDIT LOCK B parameter to its original setting

2) Set the Edit Lock C Parameters to its original setting


a. Access the Machine Parameter Screen;
i. Press the [DIAGN IN/OUT] Function Select Key
ii. Press the [PLC-I/F] Menu Key
iii. Press the [1001], [>]cursor two times, [M], then [INPUT]
iv. Press the [TOOL PARAM] Menu Key
You should see [BASE SPEC. PARAM] on the upper left and page (1/10) on the upper right of the NC screen.

b. Verify and change the #7 edlk_c parameter to its original setting;


First access the Machine Parameter then press [>] Page Key four times to page (5/10).

3) Set the PLC On-board Bit Select to its original setting


a. Access the Bit Select Screen
i. Press the [TOOL/PARAM] Function Select Key
ii. Press the[MENU] Menu Key three times
iii. Press [PLC]Press [>] Page Key four times to page (9/10)
You should see [BIT SELECT] on the upper left-side and page (9/10) on the upper right-side of the NC screen.

b. Verify and change #51 Bit 0 to its original setting
