Grade 3 Report card comments –

Math ( Term 1 ) Sample
Girls
XXXXXXXXX has displayed a very good understanding of all the math concepts touched
upon this year. She effectively uses mathematical vocabulary to express her
understanding and is able to compute with ease, unknown variables in a word problem.
She knows her times tables quite well and is able to attempt sums with all the four
operations with relative ease. Her speed and accuracy became better by the day and
she loved working hands-on with fractions, grids, and calculation of the perimeter of
various objects in class. She is also developing good mental math strategies to recall and
use quickly and accurately concepts relating to math fact families. She has great
potential in advancing her mathematical skill and would benefit from regular practice
and making mathematical connections with her day to day activities.

Boys
XXXXXXXXX has an excellent level of competence when working with numbers. He is
quick with his mental math calculations and has a clear understanding of the place value
system, rounding off and the operations of addition and subtraction. He expresses and
organizes mathematical thinking with considerable clarity while penning down story
sums using math vocabulary. His reflections on why 72 is rounded off to 70 were very
well done. He challenges himself with math work and accomplishes his target too. In his
zeal to finish his work quickly, XXXXXXXXX occasionally makes silly mistakes despite
of knowing the concepts well. He needs to revise his work before submitting it to the
teacher.

Math ( Term 2 )
Girls
XXXXXXXX has consolidated and extended understanding of the four basic operations
and approaches each problem methodically. She has worked hard to learn her times
tables but is yet to reach a level of confidence in this area. She understands simple word
problems and is able to quickly identify the operation involved. When it comes to multi-
step problems, she tends to get a bit confused, though after confirming her
understanding and clarifying her doubts, she is able to proceed with confidence. She
loved working hands-on with fractions, grids, and calculation of the perimeter of various
objects in class. She takes some time to learn a new concept, though after repeated
practice, is able to tackle the sums head-on. It is encouraging to see XXXXXXXXX step up
to clear her doubts with no inhibition and she can overcome the slight fear that she has
towards the subject by playfully and repeatedly associating word problems to real life
situations around her. XXXXXXXXX also needs to focus on trying to complete her work
on time which will be possible if she practices her computational skills through mental
maths regularly. Practising the concepts covered this year during the summer vacation
will help her enter Grade 4 with more confidence.

Boys

XXXXXXXXX has a flair for numbers and has displayed very good understanding of all the
mathematical concepts touched upon this year. He effectively uses mathematical
vocabulary to express his understanding and is able to compute with ease, unknown
variables in a word problem. A critical thinker with an analytical mind, he tried to find
easy ways and different methods to solve problems. He was able to tackle multiplication
and division sums with ease and being fiercely competitive, he would always compete
with the others to be the first to submit his work. As he tries to finish his work quickly,
he tends to make careless mistakes while calculating. XXXXXXXXX enjoyed playing
multiplication and bingo and was the first few to win entry ticket to the division word
hunt problem. His speed and accuracy became better by the day and he loved being
challenged by more complex problems. XXXXXXXXX has great potential in advancing his
mathematical skills with regular practice, as that will keep errors in calculation, at bay.
