The Oculari

W
ithin the infinite realms, there are beings who
have ascended from their mortal forms and
transformed into something unrecognizable
and horrible. Once proud people who prided
themselves on their mastery of spellcraft, it is
believed that through some sort of dark
bargain with a great old god that promised
them the ability to reach heights unlike any they had ever
been able to before, they were cursed to become parasitic
beings who hunt individuals throughout the many worlds that
have the aptitude to tap into the magic of the realms.
Arcane Devourers
Though their bargain allows the Oculari to steal the magic of
others to turn into their own, they were also cursed with the
inability to further learn their own craft and were endowed
with an endless hunger for the arcane. So they traverse the
infinite realms in a constant search for more magic; they are
a terror to any mage that might come into contact with them.
The old adage of the scholars within the Grand Pavel
Academy of Karion, tells to "fear the eyes within the husks.".
Parasites of the Cosmos
When an Oculari hunts a mage or another individual with the
ability to tap into the magic of the realms, they do not let a
perfect host go to waste. Although they cannot reproduce on
their own, they are able to grow another such Oculari from
the dead body of a spellcaster. They take these bodies back to
their colonies, where they incubate them with small, eye-like
pods that grow within the body and feed on any lingering
traces of magic they have, and normally within one week
another Oculari is born.
Colonies of Knowledge
Within the many hives and colonies of the Oculari in the
infinite realms, it is believed that they hold and possess a
great deal of ancient lore and knowledge that has been lost to
time. Many scholars and spellcasters often dream of being
able to take out a colony in order to plunder the many arcane
secrets it holds. However, many also believe that only a fool
would seek such a task, for if their hunters are what one
faces when they meet an Oculari outside their home, what
can lie within the walls of their citadels of magic and sorcery?

Creature Sense. The Oculari is aware of the presence

of creatures within 5 miles of it that have an
Intelligence score of 4 or higher. It knows the
distance and direction to each creature, as well as
each one's intelligence score, but can't sense
anything else about it. A creature protected by a
mind blank spell, a nondetection spell, or similar
magic can't be perceived in this manner.
Magic Resistance. The Oculari has advantage on
saving throws against spells and other magical
effects.

Actions
Multiattack. The Oculari makes three attacks
Lashing Blade. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit,
reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d10 + 6) piercing
damage plus 13 (3d8) psychic damage.
Arcane Eruption. Ranged Spell Attack: +12 to hit,
range 120 ft., one creature. Hit: 18 (2d10 + 6) force
damage.
Reject Arcana (Recharge 6). The Oculari releases a
blast of magic negating energy. Each creature in a
60 foot cone must make a DC 20 Intelligence
saving throw or lose 1d6 levels worth of spell slots
on a failure. The targets can choose the spell slots it
loses, but they must match or exceed the number
rolled. If a creature cannot pay or has no spell slots
they instead take 36 (8d8) psychic damage, or half
as much on a success.

Reactions
Spell Hunt When a creature casts a spell of 1st level
or higher within 120 feet of the Oculari, it can
move up to twice its speed towards that creature.
