Abstract :
Plant disease detection using image processing is a promising solution for early and
accurate detection of plant diseases. This method involves capturing images of plant
leaves, pre-processing the images to remove noise and improve image quality,
extracting relevant features such as color, texture, shape, and size from the
pre-processed images, and using machine learning algorithms to classify the images as
either healthy or diseased. This approach can revolutionize agriculture by enabling
farmers to quickly and accurately detect diseases in their crops, allowing them to take
corrective actions before the disease spreads and causes significant damage.
The first step in plant disease detection using image processing is image acquisition.
Images of plant leaves can be captured using digital cameras or smartphones. However,
image quality can vary depending on the lighting conditions, camera settings, and other
factors. Therefore, pre-processing of images is necessary to improve the image quality
and remove any noise. The pre-processing step may involve image cleaning, filtering,
and enhancement techniques.
After pre-processing, relevant features are extracted from the images using techniques
such as color-based segmentation, texture analysis, and shape recognition. These
features are then used to train a machine learning algorithm, which can classify new
images as either healthy or diseased. The algorithm may use different techniques such
Plant disease detection using image processing has several advantages over traditional
methods of disease detection. Firstly, it is a non-invasive method that does not require
the physical removal of plant samples. Secondly, it is a fast and efficient method that
can analyze large volumes of data quickly. Thirdly, it is a cost-effective method that can
be easily implemented by farmers using digital cameras or smartphones.
