A. Introduction What I need to know?
At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:

What is it?
What is Research?

Research is the careful consideration of study regarding a

particular concern or research problem using scientific
methods. According to the American sociologist Earl Robert
Babbie, “research is a systematic inquiry to describe, explain,
predict, and control the observed phenomenon”

Different Types of Research

 Qualitative Research- Qualitative methods, usually have a

linguistic-semiotic basis, are frequently used in the social
sciences to gather, compare, and interpret information.
Examples include discussion analysis, interviews,
surveys, records, and participant observations.

 Quantitative Research- Quantitative research explores

into an event by collecting numerical data and measuring
it with mathematical, statistical, and computer-aided
methods. This enables for the projection of general
findings throughout time.

 Experimental Research- It involves developing or creating

an object whose variables change under highly controlled
settings in order to identify or discover its effect on
another independent variable or item. The phenomena
being examined is measured using study and control
groups and in accordance with scientific procedure
norms.

 Research titles do have a variable; independent and

dependent variable. Properties or characteristics of
people , things or situations that change or vary.

Dependent Variable- The variable that is changed and

controlled in an experiment to test the effects on the
dependent variables.

Independent Variable- The variable that is being tested.

Examples:

“The Length of student’s sleep affects his test scores”

Independent variable – the length of sleep

Dependent variable – test scores

“The difference between how man and woman defines love”

Independent variable – gender ( man and woman )

Dependent variable - their definitions of love

Here are the different parts of Research:

Chapter 1.

A. Introduction/ Background of the Study

 The introduction serves as the opening chapter of a

research paper and provides an overview of the study

 The introduction outlines the purpose of the study and

typically includes an attention-grabbing opening, a clear
statement of the research problem or questions.
 It presents the context and background of the research
topic, highlighting its relevance and significance.

B. Theoretical Framework

 It consists of a collection of theories, concepts, and

principles that are relevant to the research topic and help
guide the research process.

 It helps to frame research questions, identify variables,

and establish relationships between them.

C. Conceptual Framework

 Provides a visual or written representation of the key

concepts, variables, and relationships in the study.

 The conceptual framework identifies the main constructs

or ideas under investigation and shows their
interconnections.

D. Statement of the Problem

 It outlines the specific problem that the study seeks to

investigate and provides a rationale for its importance.

 It often arises from the identification of a research gap in

the literature or the recognition of a practical problem that
needs to be solved.

 By stating the problem, the researcher establishes the

purpose of the study and sets the stage for the
subsequent research process.

 It must be stated in interrogative form.

E. Scope and Delimitation

 The scope and limitations section defines the boundaries

and parameters within which the research will be
conducted.

 The scope identifies the specific aspects or dimensions of

the research topic that will be investigated, providing a
clear outline of the study's focus.

 The limitations acknowledge the potential constraints or

challenges that may affect the research process or the
interpretation of results. These may include factors such
as time, sample size, availability of data, or the
researcher's expertise.

F. Significance of the Study

 The significance of the study section explains the

importance and potential contributions of the research to
the field of study, practice, or society as a whole.

 The significance may stem from addressing a research

gap, providing new insights, validating existing theories or
models, or offering practical solutions to real-world
problems.

G. Definition of Terms

 The definition of terms section clarifies the key concepts,

variables, and terminology used in the research.

 The section typically includes a list of terms and their

definitions, providing a clear and standardized vocabulary
for the research.

 Definitions may be sourced from established literature or

developed by the researcher based on the study's context
and objectives.

 Must be in alphabetical order.

 Technical Definition mostly refers to the aspect of

explaining or describing any technical terms or
terminology. Technical definitions could be used in
expanding the vocabulary since most of these terms are
explained in the exact manner.

Examples include the terms and definitions of the

words found in dictionary.

 Operational definition is the specific meaning of a word or

phrase given to it by the group of people who use the
word in their specific context.

C. Engagement What’s more?

_______3. This is the method of sorting, organizing and
interpreting data to answer research question and to draw
inferences.
_______4. The variable that is changed and controlled in an
experiment to test the effects on the dependent variables.
_______5. This is the set of individuals or object with common
characteristics selected for a research study.
What I can do?
Each group will think of their own Research Titles with
statement of the problems and rationale. The students proceed to
their group and will

research titles
