Introduction
Remembrance of Allah
Abu
Musa
Al-‐Ash`ari
(may
Allah
be
pleased
with
him)
reported:
The
Prophet
said,
"The
similitude
of
one
who
remembers
his
Rabb
and
one
who
does
not
remember
Him,
is
like
that
of
the
living
and
the
dead.”
(Al-Bukhari, Muslim)
Note:
Lack
of
remembrance
of
Allah
is
akin
to
death.
When
a
person
dies,
he
is
unable
to
do
anything.
Similarly,
a
person
who
does
not
remember
Allah
goes
so
far
from
Him
that
he
cannot
do
anything,
which
can
benefit
him.1
Du’aa (Supplication)
Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet said, “Nothing is
dearer to Allah than supplications.”
(Adab Al Mufrad by Imam Al Bukhari)
In
Islamic
terminology,
du’aa
is
the
act
of
supplication.
It
is
calling
out
to
Allah;
it
is
a
conversation
with
Allah,
our
Creator,
our
Lord,
the
All-‐Knowing,
and
the
All-‐Powerful.
In
fact,
the
word
is
derived
from
the
Arabic
root
meaning
“to
call
out
or
to
summon.”
It
is
one
of
the
most
powerful
and
effective
acts
of
worship
a
human
being
can
engage
in.
Du’aa
has
been
called
the
weapon
of
the
believer.
It
affirms
a
person’s
belief
in
One
Allah
and
it
shuns
all
forms
of
idolatry
or
polytheism.
Du’aa
is
essentially
submission
to
Allah
and
a
manifestation
of
a
person’s
need
for
Allah.2

‘A’ishah said, “The Prophet was asked, ‘Which type of
worship is best?’ He replied, ‘A man’s supplication for himself.’”
Du’aa – A Direct Connection
Prayer
(Salah),
is
one
of
the
pillars
of
Islam,
and
in
performing
the
five
daily
prayers
a
Muslim
actually
engages
in
a
physical
form
of
du’aa
asking
Allah
to
forgive
him,
and
grant
him
Paradise
through
their
actions.
Throughout
the
prayer,
one
also
supplicates
to
Allah
directly.
Salah
is
an
obligatory
act
of
worship,
and
a
direct
connection
between
Allah
and
the
believer.
Du’aa
on
the
other
hand
is
a
Muslim’s
way
of
feeling
that
connection
to
Allah
at
anytime,
in
any
place.
Du’aa
incorporates
praise,
gratefulness,
hope,
and
calling
on
Allah
to
assist
the
one
in
need
and
grant
his
or
her
requests.
Although
making
du’aa
is
not
an
obligation,
there
are
numerous
virtues
in
turning
to
Allah
frequently
with
du’aa.
Frequent
du’aa
increases
one’s
faith,
makes
one
feel
closer
to
Allah,
gives
hope
and
relief
to
the
distressed,
and
saves
the
supplicant
from
the
despair
and
isolation.
Throughout the
Qur’an, Allah encourages the believer to call on Him; He asks us
to lay our dreams, hopes, fears, and uncertainties before Him
and to be sure that He hears every word.3
“And
when
My
slaves
ask
you
(O
Muhammad)
concerning
Me,
then
(answer
them),
I
am
indeed
near
(to
them
by
My
Knowledge).
I
respond
to
the
supplications
of
the
supplicant
when
he
calls
on
Me
(without
any
mediator
or
intercessor).
So
let
them
obey
Me
and
believe
in
Me,
so
that
they
may
be
led
aright.”
(Al-Baqarah, 2:186)

-3-
Prophet Muhammad called du’aa the essence of worship.
(At-
Tirmidhi)
He
also
suggested
that
the
believer
be
humble,
yet
firm
when
making
du’aa
and
said,
“When one of you supplicates, he should not say, ‘O Allah,
forgive me if You will,’ but be firm in asking and make the
desire great, for what God gives is nothing great for Him.”
(Saheeh Muslim)
Conditions for the Acceptance of Du’aa:
When
we
make
du’aa,
when
we
call
upon
Allah
in
our
hour
of
need,
or
express
our
gratefulness,
we
must
remember
to
examine
our
sincerity
and
to
check
our
intention.
Du’aa
must
be
addressed
to
Allah
Alone,
who
has
no
partners,
sons,
daughters
or
intermediaries.
Our
intention
when
making
the
du’aa
must
be
to
please
Allah,
obey
Him,
and
trust
Him
completely.
“It
is
You
we
worship
and
You
we
ask
for
help.”
(Al-Fatihah, 1:5)
• Ikhlaas
(sincerity)
• Do
not
transgress
in
your
du’aa
for
asking
for
something
unlawful
(haram),
or
insensible
• Have
yaqeen
(firm
faith
and
certainty)
that
Allah
will
respond
to
your
du’aa
• Your
income
(rizq)
should
be
from
a
halal
source
Etiquettes of Making Du’aa4
Allah loves to be asked and He encourages us to call on Him for
all our needs, wants, and desires.
1. A
firm
and
unwavering
belief
in
the
Oneness
of
Allah
is
an
essential
ingredient
for
du’aa.
True
sincerity
and
a
willingness
to
accept
that
Allah
4 http://www.islamreligion.com/articles/4005/viewall/
-4-
Alone
is
able
to
change
the
course
of
events
or
grant
requests
is
also
necessary.
.
2. The
supplicant
should
eagerly
and
urgently
call
on
Allah;
however,
he
should
remain
humble
and
quiet
without
getting
either
impatient
or
bored.
.
“The
supplication
of
every
one
of
you
will
be
granted
if
he
does
not
get
impatient
and
say,
`I
supplicated
my
Lord
but
my
prayer
has
not
been
granted.’”
(Saheeh Al-Bukhari, Saheeh Muslim)
.
Prophet
Muhammad
liked
to
say
his
du’aa
three
times
and
he
also
asked
for
forgiveness
three
times.
(Abu Dawud, An-Nasaa’i)
3. Praising
Allah
in
the
way
He
deserves
to
be
praised
is
the
starting
point
for
a
person
making
du’aa.
4. Du’aa
through
Allah’s
Names
and
Attributes:
Allah
says:
“Say,
Call
upon
Allah,
or
call
upon
Ar-‐Rahman
(The
Most
Beneficent):
by
whatever
name
you
call
upon
Him,
(it
is
well):
for
to
Him
belong
the
Most
Beautiful
Names.”
(Al-‘Isra’, 17:110)
5. Send
blessings
on
the
Prophet
Muhammad
,
before
beseeching
Allah.
6. Prophet
Muhammad
also
recommended
raising
one’s
hands
when
making
du’aa.
He
said,
“Your
Lord,
may
He
be
blessed
and
exalted,
is
Kind
and
Most
Generous,
and
He
is
too
kind
to
let
His
slave,
if
he
raises
his
hands
to
Him,
to
send
them
back
empty.”
(Abu Dawud)
.
Raising
one’s
hands
is
an
etiquette
of
du’aa.
Sheikh
Ibn
Uthaimeen
described
it
as
joining
both
the
palms
and
raising
them
to
chest
level.
They
can
also
be
raised
higher,
this
is
called
.
(However, hands should
not be raised in all situations.)
-5-
Excellence of Supplicating in One’s Absence
.
“And
ask
forgiveness
for
your
sin,
and
also
for
(the
sin
of)
believing
men
and
believing
women.”
(Muhammad, 47:19)
Prophet
Muhammad
encouraged
the
believers
to
make
du’aa.
He
said,
“The
du’aa
of
a
Muslim
for
his
brother
in
his
absence
is
readily
accepted.
An
angel
is
appointed
to
his
side.
Whenever
he
makes
a
beneficial
du’aa
for
his
brother
the
appointed
angel
says,
Ameen.
And
may
you
also
be
blessed
with
the
same.’”
(Saheeh Muslim)

Chapter 1
Praise | .
Praise Allah in the Way
He Deserves to be Praised
“Verily,
the
Muslims
(those
who
submit
to
Allah
in
Islam)
men
and
women...and
the
men
and
the
women
who
remember
Allah
much
with
their
hearts
and
tongues.
Allah
has
prepared
for
them
forgiveness
and
a
great
reward
(i.e.
Jannah).”
(Al-‘Ahzab, 33:35)
It
is
incumbent
upon
us
then
that
when
we
make
our
du’aa
that
we
do
so
in
the
Ath-Thanaa’
best
possible
way.
We
should
endeavour
to
call
on
Allah
in
the
best
way
and
with
the
best
manners.
Praising
Allah
in
the
way
He
deserves
to
be
praised
is
the
starting
point
for
a
person
making
du’aa.
Whilst
Prophet
Muhammad
was
sitting,
a
man
came
in
and
prayed
and
said,
“O
Allah,
forgive
me
and
have
mercy
on
me.”
Prophet
Muhammad
heard
him
and
said,
“You
have
been
too
hasty,
O
worshipper.
When
you
have
prayed
and
are
sitting,
praise
Allah
as
He
deserves
to
be
praised,
and
send
blessings
upon
me,
then
call
upon
Him.”
(At-
Tirmidhi)
Praising
Allah
the
way
he
deserves
to
be
praised
essentially
means
recognizing
His
Oneness.
He
is
the
First,
the
Last,
the
Beginning,
and
the
End.
He
Alone
has
the
Power
and
the
Strength.
Recognize this and send blessings on
Prophet Muhammad , before beseeching Allah.5
“And
the
remembering
(praising)
of
(you
by)
Allah
(in
front
of
the
angels)
is
greater
indeed
[than
your
remembering
(praising)
of
Allah
in
prayers.”
(Al-
‘Ankabut, 29:45)
“And
remember
Allah
much,
that
you
may
be
successful.”
(Al-Jumu’ah, 62:10)

Abu
Malik
Al-‐Ash`ari
(may
Allah
be
pleased
with
him)
reported:
The
Messenger
of
Allah
said,
“Wudu'
is
half
of
Salat,
and
the
expression:
`Subhaan-‐Allah
(“Allah
is
free
from
imperfection.”)'
fills
the
Balance,
and
the
expression:
`Al-‐hamdu
lillah
(“Praise
be
to
Allah.”)'
fills
the
space
between
the
heavens
and
the
earth.”
(Muslim)
Subhaanallaahi,
walHamdu
lillaahi,
wa
laa
ilaaha
illallaahu,
wallaahu
'Akbar.
“Glory
is
to
Allah,
and
praise
is
to
Allah,
and
there
is
none
worthy
of
worship
but
Allah,
and
Allah
is
the
Most
Great.”
(Muslim, 4/2072)
Remember,
glorification
(i.e.
saying
Subhaan-‐Allah)
means
to
honor
Allah
and
make
Him
free
from
all
that
does
not
suit
His
Majesty.
Praising
(i.e.
saying
Al-‐Hamdulillah)
means
affirming
all
kinds
of
perfection
to
Allah
in
His
Names,
Attributes,
and
Actions.
Testification
means
sincerity
and
that
none
has
the
right
to
be
worshipped
but
Allah
and
freeing
one
from
Shirk
Ath-Thanaa’
(association).
Magnification
means
affirmation
of
greatness
to
Allah,
and
that
there
is
nothing
greater
than
Him—the
Most
High,
the
Exalted.6

Chapter 2
Peace and Blessings on Prophet
Muhammad | .
Introduction
One of the greatest blessings that Allah has given to mankind is
sending the Prophet as our guide and the Qur’an as our
Book.
As-Salaat ‘Alaa An-Nabiyy
With
the
exception
of
Muhammad
,
every
Prophet
and
Messenger
sent
by
Allah
azza
wa
jal
was
sent
to
a
specific
nation
for
a
specific
time
period.
Allah
ta’ala
chose
Muhammad
as
the
Messenger
for
all
the
worlds
and
raised
his
status
and
mention
among
all
of
mankind.
We
bear
witness
five
times
a
day
that
he
is
the
Messenger
of
Allah,
we
send
peace
upon
him
during
our
prayers,
we
open
our
gatherings
with
his
mention
after
the
mention
of
Allah
azza
wa
jal,
and
we
ask
Allah
to
bless
him
before
we
make
a
du’aa.
All
of
these
acts
show
that
we
bear
witness
that
he
delivered
the
message.
Bearing
witness
that
he
delivered
the
message
necessitates
his
love,
his
obedience,
and
sending
salah
when
he
is
mentioned,
Sallallaahu
alayhi
wa
sallam.7
Allah
says
the
following:
“Indeed,
Allah
and
His
Angels,
send
blessings
on
the
Prophet:
O
you
that
believe!
Send
your
blessings
on
him,
and
salute
him
with
respect.”
(Al-'Ahzab,
33:56)

Imam
Sa’di
(may
Allah
have
mercy
on
him)
states
in
his
tafseer
regarding
this
ayah:
And
in
this
there
is
an
indication
of
the
Prophet’s
completeness,
high
rank,
elevated
status
with
Allah
and
His
creation,
and
his
wide
fame.
Indeed
Allah
the
Exalted
and
His
Angels
confer
blessings
upon
him,
meaning:
Allah
praises
him
before
the
Angels,
and
in
the
exalted
assembly
[of
Angels]
due
to
His
love
for
him.
And
the
close
Angels
[too]
praise
him,
make
du’aa
for
him,
and
seek
forgiveness
[for
him]
in
humbleness
and
humility.
Definitions
Salaah: Praises, blessings, mercy, and supplications
Superiority of Sending Peace and
Blessings Upon the Prophet
Abdul-‐Rahman
bin
‘Auf
(may
Allah
be
pleased
with
him)
narrated:
“The
Prophet
entered
upon
us
in
the
mosque,
stood
facing
the
Qiblah,
then
prostrated
himself
and
remained
in
Sujud
for
a
long
time.”
I
said
to
him:
“O
Messenger
of
Allah,
you
prostrated
yourself
for
such
a
long
time
that
we
thought
Allah
had
taken
your
sould.”
He
sad:
“Gabriel
came
to
me
with
good
news.
He
told
me:
“Allah
says,
‘Whoever
sends
blessings
on
you,
I
will
send
blessings
on
him
in
return,
and
whoever
salutes
you,
I
will
salute
him
in
return.’
So
I
prostrated
myself
and
gave
thanks
to
Allah.”
(Ahmad, Al-Hakim)
Abdullah
bin
Mas’ud
(may
Allah
be
pleased
with
him)
narrated
that
Allah’s
Messenger
said:
“The
people
who
will
be
nearest
to
me
on
the
Day
of
Resurrection
will
be
those
who
invoke
blessings
upon
me
frequently.”
8 http://abdurrahman.org/zikr/salatsalam.html
- 22 -
(Tirmidhi, Witr, Chapter: What is said regarding the excellence of invoking blessings upon
the Prophet, Hadith: 484)
Note:
“Nearest
to
me”
signifies
“those
who
are
most
entitled
to
my
intercession.”9
Thus,
this
Hadith
has
also
an
encouragement
for
very
frequent
recitation
of
Salaat
on
the
Prophet
.
It
was
narrated
from
Husayn
ibn
‘Ali
ibn
Abi
Taalib
that
the
Messenger
of
Allah
said:
“The
miser
is
the
one
in
whose
presence
I
am
mentioned
and
he
does
not
send
blessings
upon
me.”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (3546) and classed as Saheeh
by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel (1/35))
Note:
“Miser”
means
to
deny
someone
his
right.
If
a
Muslim
does
not
supplicate
for
Prophet
upon
hearing
his
name,
then
such
a
person
is
a
miser
beyond
doubt.10
It
was
narrated
from
Abu
Hurayrah
that
the
Messenger
of
Allah
said:
“May
As-Salaat ‘Alaa An-Nabiyy
his
nose
be
rubbed
in
the
dust,
the
one
in
whose
presence
I
am
mentioned
and
he
does
not
send
blessings
upon
me.”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (3545) and classed
as Saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi)
Thus,
we
learn
that
one
must
recite
Salaat
when
he
hears
the
name
of
the
Prophet
.
It
is
sufficient
to
say
(may
Allah
render
him
from
evil
and
exalt
his
mention)
for
this
purpose.11
The Excellence of Invoking Blessings
Upon the Prophet on Friday
Aus
bin
Aus
(May
Allah
be
pleased
with
him)
reported:
The
Messenger
of
Allah
said,
“Among
the
best
of
your
days
is
Friday;
so
supplicate
Allah
more
often
for
me
in
it,
for
your
supplications
will
be
displayed
to
me.”
He
was
asked:
“O
Messenger

Chapter 3
Repentance & Seeking
Forgiveness | .
“And
declare
the
freedom
of
your
Rabb
from
imperfection
beginning
with
His
praise,
and
ask
His
forgiveness.
Verily,
He
is
the
One
Who
accepts
the
repentance
and
Who
forgives.”
(An-Nasr, 110:3)
Allah's
Messenger
said:
“Allah,
the
Most
High,
said,
‘O
son
of
Aadam!
As
long
as
you
supplicate
to
Me,
and
hope
in
Me,
I
will
forgive
you
what
you
have
done
and
I
do
not
care.
O
son
of
Aadam!
If
your
sins
were
to
reach
the
lofty
regions
of
the
sky,
then
you
asked
Me
for
forgiveness,
I
would
forgive
you.
O
son
of
Aadam!
If
you
were
to
come
to
Me
with
enough
sins
to
fill
the
earth,
but
you
met
Me
not
associating
anything
with
Me
-‐
I
would
bring
you
the
like
of
it
of
forgiveness.”
Al-Istighfaar
“By
the
One
in
whose
Hand
is
my
soul,
I
certainly
ask
forgiveness
of
Allah
and
repent
to
him
more
than
seventy
times
each
day.”
(Al-Bukhari)
The Prophet
was such that Allah had forgiven his earlier and later sins,
yet he still used to ask Allah's forgiveness more than a hundred
times each day.
Indeed,
as
Ibn
'Umar
said,
"We
used
to
count
that
in
a
single
gathering
he
would
say,
‘I
ask
Allah's
forgiveness
and
I
repent
to
Him,
more
than
seventy
times."
(As-Saheehah, 556)
Thus
he
would
continuously
ask
for
forgiveness
and
give
it
great
importance.
.
Prophet
Muhammad
said:
“I
swear
by
Him
in
whose
hand
is
my
soul,
if
you
were
a
people
who
did
not
commit
sin,
Allah
would
take
you
away
and
replace
you
with
a
people
who
would
sin
and
then
seek
Allah’s
forgiveness
so
He
could
forgive
them.”
(Sahih Muslim, 2687)
Note:
This
Hadith
does
not
mean
that
Allah
likes
disobedience.
But
by
this
way
of
description,
the
aim
is
to
emphasize
the
importance
of
seeking
forgiveness
from
Allah.
We
know
that
every
man
commits
sins.
But
Allah
likes
those
people
who,
after
committing
a
sin,
do
not
stick
to
it,
but
right
away
seek
forgiveness
for
their
sins
from
Allah.
They
weep
and
express
sorrow
before
Allah.12
12 Riyad-us-Saliheen
- 28 -
Allah
is
Al-Ghafoor (He who forgives),
and
He
is
Al-Ghaffaar (The
Oft-Forgiving),
and
He
is
Al-'Afuww (He who pardons).
These,
from
the
perfect
names
of
Allah,
demand
that
we
constantly
seek
forgiveness,
that
we
frequently
repent
and
that
we
turn
in
repentance
to
Allah,
the
Most
High.
He,
the
Most
High,
said
in
the
Noble
Qur'an:
“Allah
does
not
forgive
that
anything
is
associated
in
worship
with
Him,
but
He
forgives
whatever
is
lesser
than
shirk
to
whomever
He
pleases.”
(An-Nisaa’, 4:48)
Conditions for attaining forgiveness of sins (based
on a verse from Surah Taha)13:
“Indeed
I
am
forgiving
to
the
one
who
repents,
truly
believes,
does
righteous
and
correct
deeds,
and
then
remains
constant
upon
right
guidance”
(Taha, 20:82)
So,
"Indeed
I
am
forgiving..."
and
who
is
he
who
receives
forgiveness
from
Allah,
the
Majestic
and
Most
High?
It
is
the
one
who
fulfills
Allah's
conditions:
1. Firstly, he must repent.
As
Allah
has
said:
“Say,
‘O
My
servants
who
have
transgressed
greatly
against
themselves
through
sins!
Do
not
despair
Al-Istighfaar
of
the
Mercy
of
Allah.
Indeed
Allah
forgives
all
sins
to
those
who
repent.
Indeed
He
is
the
Oft-‐Forgiving,
the
Most
Merciful."
(Az-Zumar, 39:54)
"Do
not
despair"
here
means,
‘Repent
to
Allah,'
because
He
is,
indeed,
the
Oft-‐Forgiving,
the
Most
Merciful.
2. Secondly, he "truly believes."
He
truly
believes
in
Allah,
His
Angels,
His
Books
and
His
Messengers.
He
believes
in
the
fundamentals
of
Eman.
3. He "does righteous and correct deeds."
After
repenting,
he
devotes
himself
to
worship,
to
prayer,
to
remembrance
of
Allah,
to
fearing
Him
and
to
being
mindful
of
Him.
By
devoting
himself
to
these
deeds
of
the
heart
and
limbs,
he
turns
to
Allah.
4. Fourthly, "he remains constant upon right guidance."
He
remains
firm
and
steadfast
on
the
right
path.

Taking Refuge in Allah | .
Seeking Happiness and Protection
Through Taking Refuge in Allah14
In
order
to
attain
happiness
in
your
life
and
ease
in
all
your
affairs
such
that
you
can
devote
yourself
to
worship
Allah
and
dispose
your
affairs
easily,
you
need
to
be
protected
from
the
many
evils
and
dangers
which
are
surrounding
you.
Al-Isti’athaat
One
evil
is
sufficient
to
embitter
and
distress
your
life.
The
best
and
safest
way
to
deal
with
evils
and
dangers
is
to
seek
refuge
in
Allah
such
that
you
will
not
be
inflicted
by
them,
because
taking
protection
is
better
than
remedy.
The
following
supplications
include
many
evils
which
the
Prophet
sought
refuge
from
and
which
could
afflict
the
believer.
Seek
the
help
from
Allah
and
take
refuge
in
order
to
be
protected
and
live
happily.

Chapter 6
Permissible Ruqyah | .
Ruqyah
is
a
method
for
healing,
through
some
parts
of
the
Qur’an
and
Sunnah
of
the
Prophet
.
Supplications
for
healing
could
be
for
a
good
number
of
diseases,
sicknesses
of
the
heart
(arrogance,
showing
off,
hatred,
jealousy,
etc.),
depression,
loneliness,
evil
eye,
magic,
jinn
possession,
and
Shaytaan’s
attacks.
The following are the verses from the Qur’an concerning the
concept of healing:
Ar-Ruqyah Ash-Shara’iyah
“And
We
send
down
of
the
Qur'an
that
which
is
healing
and
mercy
for
the
believers.”
(Al-‘Isra’, 17:82)
“O
mankind,
there
has
to
come
to
you
instruction
from
your
Lord
and
healing
for
what
is
in
the
breasts
and
guidance
and
mercy
for
the
believers.”
(Yunus,
10:57)
The
scholars
are
unanimously
agreed
that
it
is
permissible
to
use
ruqyah
if
three
conditions
are
met:
it
should
based
on
the
words
of
Allah,
may
He
be
glorified
and
exalted,
or
His
names
or
His
attributes;
it
should
be
in
Arabic
or
in
words
the
meaning
of
which
can
be
understood;
and
it
should
be
accepted

Evil Eye (Envy)
Ar-Ruqyah Ash-Shara’iyah
With
regard
to
treating
one
who
has
been
affected
by
envy,
there
are
two
ways
of
doing
this:
If
the
person
who
envied
him
is
known,
he
may
be
asked
to
do
ghusl
and
the
water
used
should
then
be
poured
on
the
“victim.”
If
he
is
not
known
then
the
remedy
is
by
means
of
ruqyah
and
the
dhikrs
prescribed
in
sharee’ah.
It
was
narrated
that
‘Aa’ishah
(may
Allah
be
pleased
with
her)
said:
“The
Messenger
of
Allah
commanded
me,
or
he
commanded
(the
people)
to
use
ruqyah
to
deal
with
the
evil
eye.”
(Al-Bukhaari, Al-Tibb, 5297)
Muslim,
Ahmad
and
al-‐Tirmidhi
narrated
from
Ibn
‘Abbaas
(may
Allah
be
pleased
with
him)
that
the
Prophet
said:
“The
evil
eye
is
real
and
if
anything
were
to
overtake
the
divine
decree,
it
would
be
the
evil
eye.
When
you
are
asked
to
take
a
bath
(to
provide
a
cure)
from
the
influence
of
the
evil
eye,
you
should
take
a
bath.”
(As Saheeh by al-Tirmidhi, and also by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah
al-Saheehah, 1251)
- 87 -
An Atom of Prevention is
Better than One Ton of Cure
The
source
of
evil
eye
is
from
Shaytaan
who
puts
the
idea
of
jealousy
and
hate
into
people’s
hearts
and
minds
against
family,
friends,
and
relatives.
The
hidden
source
about
this
sickness
and
disease
could
be
that
some
people
are
being
blessed
by
Allah
with
richness,
peace,
and
happiness.
Those
who
are
crooked
and
are
being
possessed
by
Shaytaans
will
start
feeling
jealousy
towards
those
who
are
blessed
with
Allah.
Therefore,
one
has
to
protect
himself
on
a
daily
basis
by
being
in
touch
with
Allah,
and
to
remember
Him,
as
well
as
to
obey
Him.
Then
and
only
then,
no
one
will
disturb
him
or
play
magic
against
him.
Even
Shaytaans
themselves
cannot
hurt
him.
The
Qur’an
says
in
Surah
Az-‐Zukhruf:
“If
anyone
withdraws
himself
from
the
remembrance
of
The
Most
Gracious,
We
appoint
for
him
a
Shaytaan,
to
be
an
Ar-Ruqyah Ash-Shara’iyah
intimate
companion.”
(Az-Zukhruf, 43:36)
There
is
nothing
wrong
with
taking
precautions
against
the
evil
eye
before
it
happens,
and
this
does
not
contradict
the
idea
of
tawakkul
(putting
one's
trust
in
Allah).
In
fact
this
is
tawakkul,
because
tawakkul
means
putting
one’s
trust
in
Allah
whilst
also
implementing
the
means
that
have
been
permitted
or
enjoined.
The Prophet used to seek refuge for al-Hasan and al-
Husayn and say: U’eethukumaa bikalimaatillahit-taam-mati min
kulli shaiTaaniw-wahaam-matin wamin kulli ‘aynin laam-mah (“I
seek refuge for you both in the perfect words of Allah, from
every devil and every poisonous reptile, and from every evil
eye”).’”
(Al-Tirmidhi, 2060; Abu Dawood, 4737)
And he would say, “Thus
Ibraheem used to seek refuge with Allah for Ishaaq and
Ismaa’eel, peace be upon them both.”
(Al-Bukhaari, 3371)
(Fataawa al-Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, 2/117, 118)

In Times of Distress | .
Du’aa
has
unlimited
power,
it
can
change
many
things
and
it
is
an
important
act
of
worship
that
we
must
never
lose
faith
in.
Making
du’aa
demonstrates
our
great
need
for
Allah
and
it
recognises
that
He
is
able
to
do
all
things.
He gives
and He withholds but when we trust Allah completely we know
that His decree is just and wise.
deliver
the
believers
(who
believe
in
the
Oneness
of
Allah,
abstain
from
evil
and
work
righteousness).”
(Al-‘Anbya’, 21:88)
Prophet
Yunus’s
du’aa
when
he
awoke
in
the
belly
of
the
whale:
.
“None
has
the
right
to
be
worshipped
but
you,
far
removed
are
you
from
every
imperfection
and
truly
I
have
been
one
of
the
wrongdoers!”
(Al-‘Anbya’, 21:87)
Prophet
Ayub’s
du’aa
when
distress
touched
him:
“Verily,
distress
has
seized
me
and
You
are
the
Most
Merciful
of
all
those
who
show
mercy.”
(Al-‘Anbya’, 21:83)
.
As
believers,
we
must
never
forget
that
Allah
hears
our
du’aas
and
supplications
and
answers.
Sometimes,
the
wisdom
behind
the
answers
is
beyond
our
comprehension
but
Allah
desires
only
good
for
us.
Putting
our
trust
in
Allah
and
submitting
to
His
will
allows
the
believer
to
weather
any
storm,
and
to
stand
tall
in
the
face
of
adversity.
We
are
never
alone.
“Is
not
He
(better
than
your
gods)
Who
responds
to
the
distressed
one,
when
he
calls
on
Him,
and
Who
removes
the
evil?”
(An-Naml, 27:
62)

Chapter 8
Remembrance of Allah in the Morning
and in the Evening17 | .
Allah, the Exalted, says:
“And
remember
your
Rabb
by
your
tongue
and
within
yourself,
humbly
and
with
fear
and
without
loudness
in
words
in
the
mornings,
and
in
the
afternoons
and
be
not
of
those
who
are
neglectful.”
(Al-‘A’raf, 7:205)
.
“And
declare
the
perfectness
of
your
Rabb
before
the
rising
of
the
sun,
and
before
its
setting.”
(Taha, 20:130)
"And
declare
the
perfectness
of
your
Rabb
and
praise
Him
in
the
`Ashi
(i.e.,
the
As-Sabaah wal-Masaa’
time
period
after
the
midnoon
till
sunset)
and
in
the
Ibkar
(i.e.,
the
time
period
from
early
morning
or
sunrise
till
before
midnoon).''
(Ghafir, 40:55)
“Verily,
We
made
the
mountains
to
declare
the
Perfectness
of
Allah
with
him
[Dawud
(David)]
in
the
`Ashi
(i.e.,
after
the
midday
till
sunset)
and
Ishraq
(i.e.,
after
the
sunrise
till
midday).”
(Sad, 38:18)
.
Abud-‐Darda
(may
Allah
be
pleased
with
him)
reported:
The
Messenger
of
Allah
said,
"Shall
I
not
inform
you
of
the
best
of
your
actions
which
are
the
purest
to
your
Rabb,
which
exalt
you
to
the
high
ranks,
which
are
more
efficacious
than
spending
gold
and
silver
(in
charity),
and
better
for
you
than
you
should
encounter
your
enemies
whom
you
will
smite
their
necks
and
they
will
smite
your
necks?''
They
said,
"Certainly.''
He
said,
"Remembrance
of
Allah
the
Exalted.”
(At-Tirmidhi)
Note:
This
Hadith
also
tells
us
about
the
eminence
of
remembrance
of
Allah,
as
the basis of every good deed is remembrance of Allah and
expression of one's devotion and obedience to Him. Without
these two, even the greatest virtue is useless and is of no value.
Thus,
we
must
always
bear
it
in
mind
that
remembrance
of
Allah
is
superior
to
everything
else.
