Continuation of Commands
Materials For the Presentations:
Scissors, paper, underlay, pencil, pencil holder, pencil holder
Box of grammar symbols.

For the Independent Work:


A box or envelope marked with a verb symbol and #3 which contains
10 cards with a double command in which sequence is important.

A box or envelope marked with a verb symbol and #4 which contains


10 cards with a double command, one command having an object

A box or envelope marked with a verb symbol and #5 which contains


10 Cards with a double command, both commands having an object.

Purposes  To help the child interpret what is read


 To develop concentration and memory of what he has read

Age 5 and up

Preparation The child has done the Double Commands with Listen and Do
The child knows the verb and adverb

Presentation 1: 1. Invite 2-3 children. Write a double command for each such as
Two Actions “stand and walk”.
(Packet 3) 2. The children read and act out their commands. “How many actions
are there?”
3. “Can you symbolize the actions?”
4. Write the same sentence again. Cut and transpose it. “Does it still
make sense? Can it still be done?”
5. Have a discussion about the importance of word order.
6. Return the phrase to original order and give another command that
can be reversed such as “clap and sing”.
7. Introduce the prepared labels. (to transpose, write on paper and cut)

Presentation 2: 8. Repeat the above presentation with 2 actions and one direct object:
Two Actions, water and dust the plant.
One Object

Presentation 3: 9. Repeat the above presentation with 2 actions and 2 direct objects
Two Actions, such as swing the bat and run the bases.

Pedagogical  This presentation serves as the bridge from Function of Words to


Notes Reading Analysis. The child is still reading phrases, but the focus is
on the verb and that is the only word symbolized.
