Scripts

● A script is a written work that


documents all movements, actions,
and dialogue of actors and crew.

● Also known as the “ Blueprint “ of


films.
Concept Phase
● Theme / Overall Idea
● The script can convey a message,
concept, topic, and or morals.
● The script should showcase the main
topic of the story throughout the
entire plot with no holes.
● Examples of Themes:
Sci-Fi, Comedy, Horror,
Drama, Western, Action,
etc.
Characters
● Create a original Character(s) with
characteristics that are unique or
mundane as wanted.
● Decide point of view ( First Person,
Second Person, Third Person )
● Tie them into the key plot and
overall theme.
● A typical script ranges from 4-6
Main Characters, and 1- 13
Supporting or Extras.
Plot Layout
● Make a simple or detailed layout of
your plot.
● Think about every detail from the
beginning to the end of the script.
● Make sure to keep plot with the
overall theme, and or moral.
● Decide what challenges, obstacles,
topics the story will go through and
convey.
● Should have a clear structure.
Formatting “ the nitty gritty “
● First page should always include script
title, and author’s name.
● Should include a list of the scripts
characters names, and any description,
info of the characters ( optional )
● Should always be easy to read and on
the eyes.
● Slug Line
● Screen Notes / Directions
● Useful Dialogue / Engaging
● Formatting ( Bold, Italics, Layout )
● Always end with ( The End, To be
continued, Fin, Etc. )
Examples
Editing
● Once finished with the script read
through it, change what changes should
be made and or edits.

● Keep an eye out for any inconsistencies,


unnatural dialogue, grammatical errors,
plot holes, missing details.

● Make sure script is in the proper page


frame given ( in your case 3 - 5 pages )
Rehearse and Plan
● Depending if its a screenplay or
stageplay it would be best to
rehearse the script.

● Print out scripts and give to actors


so they can study and analyze the
lines, role, directions, etc.

● This is also a good opportunity to


find any remaining errors.
Conclusion ( Final Thoughts )
● Remember to have fun and to be creative.

● Get multiple opinions

● Ask for help when needed

● Writing scripts is easy once gotten down and is easily fun, don’t overthink it.
