1.0 Aim/Benefits of the Micro-Project:

This infrared object counter can be installed at the entry gate to count the total number of
people entering any venue. For example, it can be used at the railway stations or bus stands
to count the people arriving per day or week. Obstacle detection using IR sensors also has a
number of applications in robotics, security systems and industrial assembly lines.

2.0 Course Outcomes Addressed:

A) Maintain various consumer electronic appliances.

3.0 Proposed Methodology:

To create a project on " Object Counter using Microcontroller” firstly, we collected all the
material and information via standard books and internet. After collecting required material
and information, we started our project. Then we wrote a report and showed it to our course
faculty and asked for the necessary correction if required. Then we finalized the project report
and submitted to the course Faculty.

Micro-Project Report

Title of Micro-Project:- Object Counter using Microcontroller

1.0 Rationale:
In the 21st century electronic communication plays vital role in every aspect of human life.
Diploma Engineering (also called technologist) have to deal with the various electronic
communication circuits while maintaining electronics communication systems. The study of
basic operating principles and handling of various electronic communication system will help
them to troubleshoot and maintain electronics communication system used for various type of
communication. This course is developed in such a way that, students will be able to apply the
domain knowledge to solve broad communication engineering application problems in
electronic communication engineering field.

2.0 Aims/Benefits of the Micro-Project:

This infrared object counter can be installed at the entry gate to count the total number of
people entering any venue. For example, it can be used at the railway stations or bus stands
to count the people arriving per day or week. Obstacle detection using IR sensors also has a
number of applications in robotics, security systems and industrial assembly lines.

3.0 Course Outcomes Achieved:

• Maintain various consumer electronic appliances..

4.0 Literature Review:

In this Micro Project we have gathered all the information by using different types of
educational resources like reference book, internet.

Working:-

Sensor.

The sensor part consists of a ultra bright led (with focus), and LDR, op-amp LM324 and
the associated passive components. The LED is placed on one side of the door and the LDR is
placed on the other side so that the light from the LED falls directly on the LDR.As you know, the
resistance of the LDR has an inverse relationship with the intensity of the light falling on it. The
preset resistor R14 is so adjusted that the voltage across the LDR is below 1.5V when it is
illuminated. This voltage (labelled A in the circuit diagram) is connected to the inverting input of
the op-amp which is wired as a comparator with reference voltage 1.5V .Capacitor C1 is meant for
bypassing noise or anything like that which may cause false triggering.Resistor R13 is meant to
control the current through the LED.

When the light is falling on the LDR the voltage across it will be less than the reference
voltage and so the output of the op-amp remains high. When the light beam is interrupted, the
voltage across the LDR goes above the reference voltage and so the op-amp output goes low and
it indicates a pass.

IR Sensor application :-

• Gas detectors
• Moisture Analyzers
• Water analysis
• Home applications

Display section.

The output of the op-amp is fed to the INTO (interrupt 0) pin of the microcontroller. The
microcontroller is programmed to count the number of negative edge pulses received at the INT0
pin and displays it on the three digit seven segment display.
