HW7 SlopeDeflection Part1

The document provides instructions for two homework problems involving the analysis of beams using the slope-deflection method. Problem 1 involves determining moments at supports for a fixed-roller beam with a constant load. Problem 2 involves calculating the rotation at a settled support for a fixed-fixed beam with a point load and determining the moment diagram.

Problem 1:
For the beam in the figure below, A and C are fixed, the support at B is a roller, and 𝐸𝐸𝐸𝐸 is constant.

(1) Using the slope-deflection method, determine the moments at A, B, and C.

(2) Draw the moment diagram for the beam.

Check your answers using SAP2000. (You can use 𝐸𝐸 = 200 𝐺𝐺𝐺𝐺𝐺𝐺, 𝐼𝐼 = 200 ∙ 106 𝑚𝑚𝑚𝑚4).

Problem 2:
The steel beam ABC shown below is fixed at A, and supported by rollers at B and C. The beam is
subjected to a load 𝑃𝑃 as shown. Moreover, the support at B settles by 5 cm (downward).

All elements have a constant flexural rigidity 𝐸𝐸𝐸𝐸, and the effects of axial and shear deformations are
neglected. 𝑷𝑷 = 𝟑𝟑𝟑𝟑 𝒌𝒌𝒌𝒌, 𝑳𝑳 = 𝟓𝟓 𝒎𝒎 and 𝑬𝑬𝑬𝑬 = 𝟑𝟑𝟑𝟑, 𝟎𝟎𝟎𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝒌𝒌𝒌𝒌. 𝒎𝒎𝟐𝟐 .

The structure is analyzed using the slope-deflection method.

(1) Calculate the rotation 𝜃𝜃𝐵𝐵 of node B.

(2) Draw the moment diagram for the beam.
