1. Scope
This specification covers the shop application of epoxy coating by electrostatic spray
method to deformed and plain steel reinforcing bars. It provides detailed qualification
procedure for initial approval of coatings supplied in accordance with this specification
as well as Quality Control requirements for coating application.

The selection of material and equipment, and the design, construction, maintenance, and
repair of equipment and facilities covered by this specification shall comply with the
latest edition of the references listed below, unless otherwise noted.
4. Terminology
4.1 Acronyms
4.2 Definitions
Manufacturer: The company which manufactures the required coatings.
Responsible Unit Supervisor (RUS): The group leader of CP & Coatings Group who
is designated by the Manager, Consulting Services Department.
Saudi Aramco Inspector: The person or persons designated by the Saudi Aramco
Inspection Department to inspect, monitor, and enforce the contract.
Vendor (Coating Applicator): The company responsible for the actual application of
the coating.
5. General Requirements
5.1 For purposes of this specification, the buyer's representative shall be the Responsible
Unit Supervisor (RUS).
5.2 Qualification of any product under this specification shall be in strict compliance with
SAEP-1200. In order to qualify a coating acceptable under this specification, the
coating supplier shall submit for Saudi Aramco (RUS) approval a certified test report
that the proposed coating meets the qualification tests and requirements of this SAMSS
with the preparation and testing performed as summarized in Table 1, and/or witnessed
and performed by an independent Saudi Aramco approved laboratory.
5.3 All qualification tests shall be carried out at no cost to Saudi Aramco. The RUS shall
decide if the data presented by the Supplier satisfies the requirements of the test
outlined below.
5.4 The vendor's coating procedure shall be approved by the RUS prior to coating. A
previously approved procedure does not require reapproval on subsequent jobs as long
as it is unchanged.
5.5 Only Saudi Aramco-approved coating products in accordance with SAES-H-002V shall
be used.
