Definition of New Hire Orientation

New Hire Orientation is also known as employee orientation or onboarding, is the process through
which a newly hired employee is introduced to their new workplace, job role, colleagues, and the
organization as a whole.
Purpose of New Hire Orientation
 Welcoming New Employees (create a warm and welcoming environment for new hires.)

 Introducing the Company Culture (Providing an overview of the organization's history,

mission, values, and goals.)

 Clarifying Job Roles and Performance Expectations (Clarifying the responsibilities,

duties, and expectations associated with the new employee's position.)

 Introducing Workplace Policies and Procedures (Educating the new hire about company
policies, safety procedures, and standards of conduct, enrollment, and benefits,)

 Improving Job Satisfaction and Engagement (A well-executed orientation program

boosts job satisfaction and engagement levels among new hires.)

 Reducing Turnover (Employee turnover often increases when employees don’t feel valued
or are essentially set up to fail at their jobs. An orientation shows the employee that they
are valued by the organization and support their success by providing the tools they need to
do the job.)

Importance of Training Design and Content

Training design in new hire orientation refers to the process of creating a structured and effective
program to onboard new employees. It involves the thoughtful planning and organization of
training materials, activities, and resources.
The company should provide trainings to the new hires for the following reasons:
 Increase workers’ productivity.
 Increase workers’ job satisfaction.
 Keep workers’ skills and knowledge updated.
Therefore, trainings ensure that new hires receive the information and skills they need to succeed
in their roles and integrate into the organization smoothly.
