- The history of Facebook
- What is Facebook today and what it is used for.

Creator of Facebook:
Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is an American Internet entrepreneur and the
creator of Facebook with some Harvard College students. He was
born in New York in 1984. He studied at Harvard College where he
created Facebook.
Mark Zuckerberg is also a philanthropist because in 2015, he made
The Chan Zuckerberg initiative, a charitable fund to which he
promised to donate 99 percent of their wealth over their lifetimes.
Mark is also the world youngest billionaire.

Facemash

Before creating Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg invented Facemash,
which compared the pictures of two students on Harvard campus
and allowed users to vote on which one was more attractive. The
program became wildly popular but was later shut down by Harvard
administration after it was considered inappropriate.

Based on the buzz of his previous projects, Mark and three of his
colleague students (Divya Narendra, and twins Cameron and Tyler
Winklevoss) started working on a new idea: a social networking site
they called Harvard Connection.
This site was designed to use information from Harvard's student
networks to create a dating site for the Harvard elite. Zuckerberg
helped with the project but dropped it out to work on his own social
networking site: The Facebook.

Zuckerberg and his 3 friends Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes and


Eduardo Saverin created Facebook,

The site that allows users to create their own profiles, upload photos,
and communicate with other users. The group ran the site from their
dorm room at Harvard University until June 2004.

That year, Zuckerberg quitted college and moved the company to Palo
Alto, California.

By the end of 2004, Facebook had 1 million users.

In 2005, Zuckerberg's enterprise received money from the capital firm


Accel Partners.
Accel invested $13 million into the network, which at the time was
opened only to students from the most famous American universities
like: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Columbia..

Description of typical facebook page

Facebook is a worldwide social networking website


where users can post comments, share photographs, and
post links to news or other interesting content on the
web, chat live, and watch short-form videos.

Shared content can be made public, or it can only


be shared among a selected group of friends or family,
or with a single person.

But the use of Facebook can have negative psychological effects


that include feelings like jealousy and stress, a lack of attention, as
well as social media addiction.
