The Written Report

The theme chosen by our group was ‘Depression’. This topic was selected after some

observations of some individuals affected by it. After reflecting on this topic group members

chose topics such as “Signs of Depression among teenagers”, “Coping Strategies for

Depression” and “Factors that lead to Depression”.

In all, we gathered nine pieces but we only wanted the most thought provoking three

among them for the group report, so we discussed as a group about the pieces during class

time then later on had a voting poll up all 9 pieces in a WhatsApp group chat to find the best

three. The outcome was that we chose the following pieces: “Depression Treatment by

Melinda Smith,M.A. , Lawrence Robinson and Jeanne Segal,Ph.D. , from helpguide.com “5

Ways to help yourself through depression by Lawrence Robinson and Sheldon Reid and a

poem entitled “I’m the one to blame” by Rayne.

The three sources chosen were informative and relatable. One article, 'Depression

Treatment' from helpguide.org, particularly grabbed our attention. It discussed the prevalence

of depression among different age groups and provided practical coping strategies like

regular exercise, therapy, and seeking support from loved ones. This article not only helped

us understand depression better but also gave us valuable tools to manage it in our own lives

should we find ourselves struggling with depression.

Another piece, "5 Ways to Help Yourself Through Depression," published August 7

by Lawrence Robinson and Sheldon Reid added valuable insights on coping with depression.

It discussed practical strategies like self-care, talking to trusted adults, and seeking

professional help. Group members appreciated this guidance and plan to incorporate these

strategies into our daily lives as we work towards managing and overcoming depression.

Lastly, the poem entitled “I’m the one to Blame” by Rayne which features a girl who

laughs and smiles with her friends but her friends don’t know it’s an act. They think she is
full of life but she’s thinking about her death most of the time. They think she likes to walk

down the street to look important but she feels incomplete. This poem reveals that depression

can cause loneliness, desperation and self-destructive tendencies upon people especially teens

with this mental illness trapping their own suffering making them unable to reach out for

help. After examining these articles we found out a great deal of interesting factual

information about depression. We have realized that it’s not an easy task to conquer

depression but with this information gathered we now know what to do to help and

understand people with this mental disorder.
