PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

The organization selected for this case study is a longstanding Autobody Supply
Company where I am currently employed. While I will maintain its anonymity for
privacy reasons, this company has a rich history of over 80 years in the industry.
Following a recent merger, we have undergone significant changes, as is typical in such
situations. This merger occurred in the aftermath of the Covid-19 Pandemic, during
which the owner made the decision to sell the company due to concerns about its long-
term viability. The new organization that acquired us last year has initiated plans to
establish distribution centers to better serve our various locations. One key aspect of this
initiative is the reconfiguration of a single warehouse space into two separate units. One
unit will continue to operate as a storefront, while the other will be converted into a
distribution center. This reconfiguration project presents an intriguing case study
opportunity, and I intend to explore its challenges and outcomes throughout the
remainder of this course.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

My role in this organization is multifaceted as a Project Specialist, encompassing a

diverse range of responsibilities. Among my duties are overseeing inventory corrections,
conducting full location inventory assessments, managing manufacturer claims and
returns, handling warranty and defective processes, and facilitating new location setups
or closures, among other tasks. With 27 years of tenure at this company, I have worked
across various departments and roles, accumulating extensive experience in multiple
facets of the business. This breadth of experience has been invaluable, contributing to
both my personal growth and the company's advancement. While I am involved in many
projects across the company, my current focus is primarily on managing tasks from the
office due to my ongoing schoolwork commitments. However, I was able to participate in
the recent project because I had completed a significant portion of my work for the four
days I was away, coinciding with the end of section A.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

The case study I have selected revolves around a pivotal project assignment in my career.
Our company required the establishment of a distribution center in one of our major
locations, necessitating the division of a large warehouse into two separate units. While
both the area director and my supervisor were eager to kickstart this project, my
availability was limited due to family and school commitments. Consequently, the project
had to be postponed for seven weeks until I could dedicate my full attention to it. This
delay is not an isolated incident within our organization, particularly since the merger and
subsequent change in ownership. The current leadership, who were previously directors
under the former owner, have been managing the company amidst internal conflicts and a
lack of cohesive communication with team members. Despite providing my schedule and
project tasks three months in advance, the plan to clear the area of products and begin the
shelving removal process was not executed as expected by the location team. Their
failure to complete this crucial task within the specified timeframe led to further delays in
the project's timeline.
