My last birthday was one that I will never forget. I was not planning to

anything. When I got home, I got a call from my colleague, Mark, who told me

the light suddenly went out. I heard some strange noises, but I couldn‟t make

Three years ago, we decided to make a garden for our school. It was a
big project. We wanted it for birds, animals and insects. We wanted to make
a pond for frogs. We chose a corner of a field next to the playground and we

Dear Peter,
I haven't heard from you for quite some time. I know that you've
probably been very busy with moving house, but I'm hoping we can get
together soon to catch up on each other's news.
Speaking about news you'll never guess what happened to me recently. You
know I've always wanted to go hiking. Well, I finally managed to go but it
didn't turn out too well. I went with some friends of mine who are very
experienced hikers. I'm grateful I did because I don't know what I have done
without them.
We set off early in the morning and started walking. At first , I thought to
myself that hiking is quite easy but then I started feeling really tired and I
could hardly keep up with the rest of the group. We were crossing a field.
When I felt a sharp pain in my left leg. I thought it was a thorny bush or
something and I kept going because the rest of the group was far ahead.
After a while I broke out into cold sweat and started feeling dizzy. Then I
passed out.
When I finally came around, my friends told me that a snake had bitten. One
of my friends who knew about snake bites had tied my leg and sucked out the

The Pyramids of Giza stand in the desert outside Cairo. The largest
pyramid, the Greatest Pyramid, was built by King Khofu more than 4500
years ago. The pharaoh, King Khofu, said that he wanted a Pyramid on the
west bank of the River Nile. This was a special place because the sun sets in
the west. He told the finest architects to draw the plans. He told the
engineers to build the Pyramid.
Thousands of workmen helped to build it. The Pyramid was made of
stones. Some stones came from a place near Giza. Other stones were
brought by boats down the River Nile from Aswan. After twenty years, the
Pyramid was finished. The pharaoh asked his people to bury him in the
Pyramid when he died.

Samir lived with his parents until he was twenty four years old , and then
he got a job in an office of a big company in another town, so he left home.
He found a little flat and lived there on his own. At first he cleaned it himself ,
but after a few weeks he asked Mrs. Lelia to help him. She promised to come
to clean his flat for an hour every morning. After she had been working for
Mr. Samir for two weeks, one evening, he looked at the mirror in his bedroom
