Section 2
Description

1. Intended Use Model ES 90 pattern control units may only be used to control 24 VDC-
solenoid valves.

Any other use is considered as not intended and is carried out at the
operator’s own risk. Nordson will not be responsible for any damages
resulting from unintended use.

NOTE: Hot melt material, cold glue and other melting materials are
referred to as adhesives in this manual.

Unintended Use – Example – The unit may not be operated in an explosive atmosphere.

2. Residual Risks WARNING: Do not touch the contacts after pulling the mains
plug. Some of the unit’s electronic components contain resi-dual
voltage in the form of a capacitive charge which can produce a
light electrical shock when touched. The capacitive charge dis-
appears after approx. 60 seconds.

WARNING: When controlling the solenoid valves, adhesive

flows out of the application head nozzle. Danger of burns-
and/or spraying. Wear safety goggles and heat-protective
gloves. Do not mount application heads and program the unit at
the same time.

This danger is present especially:

S when switching the machine release (security)

S when starting up the parent machine

S during inverted mode

S during manual mode

By linking max. 3 control units (Master-Slave- operation) the number of

channel units can be expanded from max. 12 channels (6 channels A
and 6 channels B) to max. 36 (18 channels A and 18 channels B each).

Programming is menu-controlled. A menu is understood as a branched

program structure from which the desired function is selected. All
programming steps are displayed on an easily-readible LCD in different
languages.

The accessory remote control has the same control panel as the unit
itself.

Equipment Features S 8 different programs can be stored

S adhesive application at varying parent machine speeds without

misalignment

S 1 offset-, 8 delay-and 8 glue patterns per channel unit

S Total programmable pattern: 9999 mm, offset pattern 0-9999 mm,

delay pattern 1-9999 mm, glue pattern 1-9999 mm

S Compensation for pull-in and drop-off delay of the solenoid valves

S Many different indicators can be used as a starting device

S Indicators for starting signal can be connected either for each channel
unit individually or together for all channel units through the central
unit

WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the

following tasks. Observe and follow the safety instructions in
this document and all other related documentation.

1. Transport Transport the unit so as to avoid damage. Do not throw the unit. Use
suitable packing materials such as styrofoam and sturdy cartons. See
Section Specifications for weight.

Protect the unit from exposure to humidity, dust, and vibrations.

2. Unpacking Carefully unpack the unit to avoid damaging it. Check for damage caused
during transport. Do not lose the key included with the unit.

Save packing material for possible later use. Otherwise recycle or

dispose of properly according to local regulations.

3. Setting up Protect the unit from humidity, excessive dust (observe IP-Class) and
vibrations.

For dimensions and IP-Class see Section Specifications.

4. Removing Switch off the mains switch, then disconnect all electrical connections
from the unit.

5. Storage Pack the unit in suitable packing materials such as styrofoam and sturdy
cartons. Protect from humidity, dust and great fluctuations in temperature
(condensation).

6. Disposal Dispose of properly according to local regulations.

may be valid for the solenoid valves and application heads used!

Minimum delay pattern Ip = (ton x v)/60

Minimum glue pattern IL = ((toff - ton) x v)/60

(for toff < ton: IL = 1 mm)

Maximum pull-in delay ton = (Ip x 60)/v

Maximum drop-off delay toff = (IL x 60)/v + ton
