REPORT ON SUPPORTED TEACHING IN SCHOOLS FOR THE FIRST SEMESTER OF THE 2020/2021
ACADEMIC YEAR

This report emphasizes on the six weeks observation done at Afari presby jhs from 18th may 2021 to
27th July 2021.This observation talks about the induction in school, identification of key features of the
basic school (BSC), observation of classroom and wider school life, small scale classroom enquiry with
four learners, teacher professionalism and development of professional teaching portfolio. These topics
were highlighted when the observation took place. The headmaster showed us to our lead mentor. Mr.
Rev.Sampson Oteng Preko was my lead mentor. Firstly, the first observation was about the induction in
the school. The headmaster welcomes us all and showed us around the various staffs and classroom as
introduction into the school. The culture of the school was told to us and the history about the school
was also highlighted. The lead mentor also made mention of the school uniform the learners put on
during the day and the different uniform they have in the school. The learners have Monday uniform

and Thursday uniform and they use it concurrently. Through the induction we got to know the history of
the school and when the school was established and when the school started operation. The school was
established in the year 1960 and has been able to mentor great personality. The school made was ready
to receive us on that very faithful day. Secondly we asked the lead mentor about the new basic school
curriculum and how the curriculum was structured. Mr. Sampson made it clear on some of the new
features of the curriculum and the new way that they can use that to improve the learner’s ability to
learn. He made mentioned of the importance of it and how it also facilities. Addition to that I observed
activities in the classroom, the school environment, during teaching and during break time. I used check
list to successfully complete the task. The task was about teaching approaches, strategies and teacher
traits. Some learning needs for the learner was checked and recorded. During this section my Sts
Partners and I had a look at their wider school life. Fourth we did some classroom enquiry with some
group of learners in the classroom that we observed.During this task we considered the learners learning
needs and how to solve it, learner’s performance in various subjects and how the learners dresses to
school. The progress of the learners was also capture in this task. The lead mentor Mr. Sampson
discusses with us some of the good attitude traits of a good teacher and what does to the learner while
you teach. He even cited an example of a learner not also showing interest in mathematics and science.
He adopted create and innovative ways to help get the learners attention. When he showed that trait he
was able to help the child. Lastly development of professional teaching portfolio was taken into
consideration. Philosophy of we the student teacher was also needed. Artefacts like (learners records,
audio, audio visual, pictures, reviewed teaching philosophy) was mentioned as some of the things used
to develop portfolio.

In conclusion, Sts Partners, my mentor and I got to know that teachers are obligated to hold student to
only the highest expectations. There is a quote in the binary reader hands that says “for you to replace
ones with zeros it will surely come back to zero so why not solve the internal problem by using them to
create something meaningful”. What this quote means is that don’t replace ones learners needs to
highlight on other learners break through. Doing so encourages the students to think highly of
themselves. My mentor Mr. Rev.Sampson made me to understand the reason why adapting to good
traits helps you as a teacher. I hold in high faith that with God on side and working hard and smart we
will surely improve the education services and other sectors in the education background
