LEARNING TASK 1. WHY? OH WHY?

Identify the part of the Kinetic Molecular Theory that explains the following observations:
KMT AND EXPLANATIONS
1. You smell the food being cooked by your
mother.

2. Party balloons burst when exposed to

sunlight.

3. LPG tanks should be stored in cool areas.

LEARNING TASK 2. OH, MY GAS!

Using Boyle’s Law solve the given situational problem in a clean sheet of paper. Note: Write the
given, formula and solution. You may refer to the example given in the learners’ module.

1. A sample of He (Helium)gas was confined to a container at constant temperature. The volume of

the gas is measured at 5.00 mL when the pressure applied is 6.50 atm. Determine the volume of the
He gas if the pressure is reduced to 2.00 atm.

2. Oxygen gas inside a 1.5 L gas tank has a pressure of 0.95 atm. Provided that the temperature
remains constant, how much pressure is needed to reduce its volume by ½?

3. A scuba diver needs a diving tank in order to provide breathing gas while he is underwater. How
much pressure is needed for 6.00 liters of gas at 1.01 atmospheric pressure to be compressed in a
3.00-liter cylinder?
