LESSON PLAN IN

TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT OF MACRO SKILLS


CHAPTER 2: TEACHING AND ASSESING SPEAKING

School: Mindoro State University – Bongabong Campus

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of this module, students must have to:
1. define the traditional and conventional literacy;
2. expand views of literacy in the 21st Century;
3. be familiar with the new literacies; and
4. express their insights and experiences being a 21st century learner through
storytelling.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Lesson 1: Understanding Speaking

III. PROCEDURE

A. Daily Routine 1. Prayer

B. Review The facilitator will call volunteers to be asked about their
past lessons about listening skills.
C. Motivation ARE YOU GUILTY?

Mechanics: The facilitator will state sentences to the


students and each questions correspond their fingers. If
they are guilty with statement, they need to put their
finger down one by one, until the statements ran out.
The one who will get all or the most of the statements
will explain her/himself in on front of the class.

1. I speak at an appropriate speed and volume.


2. I demonstrate awareness of listeners’ needs.
3. I make eye contact with the audience.
4. I speak smoothly, with less hesitation that does
not interfere with communication.
5. My pronunciation and intonation are almost very
clear and accurate.
6. I can communicate using clear and well-
structured words and sentences.
7. I can give clear and detailed descriptions of a
variety of topics.
8. I use variety of accurate vocabulary and
expressions.
9. My speech and speaking has a clear purpose.
10. I use a variety of structures with only few
grammatical errors.

D. Introduction of The facilitator will present a video from TikTok, as the


Topic lesson talks about understanding speaking, the students
will be encouraged by the facilitator to speak up and
share their insights and perceptions about the video.

2. How do you employ your thoughts to whom you are

3. In what ways you will vary the use of your

saying “There are always three speeches. The one
you practiced, the one you gave, and the one you
wish you gave.”

F. Application Group Activity


SPEAKS CHOIR
Directions: The class will be divided into two groups.
They will be given the same excerpt from a poem and
they need to perform it through a speech choir. Their
performances will be rated through the following rubrics.

G. Generalization Group Activity

EX-TIME-PO

The facilitator will play a motivational video of Steve


Harvey to test their understanding of speaking. To
encourage speaking, each one of the members of the
group will be given the chance to explain themselves
and speak.

DIRECTIONS: Watch the video, and identify and assess


the following questions through an extempo or
extemporaneous speech. The class will be divided into
five members per group. Each one of the members will
be assigned with one question. They will be given five
minutes to plan the answers. They will be answering the
set of questions in a minute duration. After that they
have answered all the questions, they need to say EX-
TIME-PO that signals the next group to answer. Finish
or not finish, the set time will be restarted again for the
next group.
1. What is the video all about?
2. What can you say about the grammar,
vocabulary and pronunciation used by the
speaker?
3. What register did the speaker used?
4. How will you evaluate the speaker’s speech?
5. Did you understand the message that the
speaker conveyed? Why do you think so? Why
do you think not?

IV. EVALUATION
DIRECTIONS: Read and answer the following questions by
providing the correct answers.

Register 1. This refers to the level of formality and style


anchored on contextual scenarios.
Speaking 2. This is the process of communicating
through the use of verbal and non-verbal symbols.
Manuscript 3. This is the type of speech delivery when
the speaker has to use exact words as needed.
Consultative Register 4. This is the type of register that
uses the participation and feedback of the listener.
Intonation 5. A suprasegmental that refers to the rise
and fall of the pitch when speaking.
