UNIT 1:

1. Prove that if a sequence (𝑥𝑚 ) in ℝ𝑛 , 𝑛 > 1 is convergent then it converges to a

unique limit.

2. Let (𝑥𝑚 ) be a sequence in ℝ𝑛 given by 𝑥𝑚 = (𝑥𝑚

(1) (2) (𝑛)
, 𝑥𝑚 , … , 𝑥𝑚 ).

Then prove that (𝑥𝑚 ) is convergent in ℝ𝑛 if and only if each of

(1) (2) (𝑛)

the coordinate sequence ( 𝑥𝑚 ) , ( 𝑥𝑚 ) , … , ( 𝑥𝑚 ) is convergent

in ℝ .

3. Prove that limit of a scalar valued function 𝑓: ℝ𝑛 → ℝ at a point 𝑎 ∈ ℝ𝑛 if exists

is unique.

4. Let 𝑆 be a nonempty open subset of ℝ𝑛 . Let 𝑓, 𝑔: 𝑆 ⊆ ℝ𝑛 → ℝ be

a scalar field and 𝑎 ∈ 𝑆. Suppose lim 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑙 and lim 𝑔(𝑥) = 𝑚 then prove that

differentiable at 𝑎 and 𝐷𝑓(𝑎)(ℎ) = ( 𝐷𝑓1 (𝑎)(ℎ) , 𝐷𝑓2 (𝑎)(ℎ) , … , 𝐷𝑓𝑚 (𝑎)(ℎ) ).
