Native Player requires Java version 8.

2. Exporting media files

Users with the appropriate permissions can save selections of recorded images. To export media
files from AEOS Surveillance, you have to switch to review mode first. Click the ‘Review’ button
on the top of the screen.

Once in review mode, click the ‘Export’ button on the bottom left side of the screen.

When you click the ‘Export’ button on the bottom left side of the timeline, a dialogue box opens
where you can select which images you wish to save from which camera.

• Select the camera name from a drop down list at ‘Stream to export’.
• Select a ‘Time range’.
Enter the date and time for the start and finish of the recordings you wish to save.
Enter the date according to this format: <dd/mm/yyyy>.
The time can be entered in three steps (hours, minutes, seconds).
• At ‘Output format’, change the default output format (.avi or .mp4) to the AEOS native
format (.aeos).

To save your selection of images click ‘Export’. You can now select the location where the file are
saved. Click ‘OK’ to execute the export of your selection. A dialogue box opens with a progress
bar that indicates the status of your export.

After the export has started you can minimise the progress dialogue box and continue using the
application. This includes the export function: you can run multiple exports simultaneously.

The media file has now been exported to the .aeos format. Note that you can open this file with
the AEOS native player only.

2.1. Integrity of exported video files

AEOS Surveillance produces a hash for all exported video files. With this hash, a recipient can
verify that the video files have not been modified in transmission or storage. SHA-256 hashes are
stored in files with the extension .sha. This .sha files have the same name as the video files. To
check the integrity of a video file, a recipient produces another hash from the received file and
compares the two hashes. If they are the same, the video was transmitted intact.

5. Viewing a media file

The timeline at the bottom of the Review mode interface can be used to operate the different
options available for viewing recorded images. The time spans marked blue on this timeline
indicate the availability of recorded images you have access to. A grey colour in the timeline
indicates that there are no recordings available.

The present moment is located on the vertical black bar in the centre of the timeline. The time
indicator above this bar shows the corresponding time.

You operate the review timeline by moving the pointer over it. The pointer turns into a hand,
with which you can drag the timeline back and forth and navigate through time. Various settings
and functions that are discussed below can be used to personalise the timeline or optimise it for
a specific situation.

5.1. Searching images

Localising specific recordings with the timeline can be optimised by using the scale indicator on
the bottom right side of it, and the playback speed control on the left hand side, below the
control panel. Another possibility is to enter date and time data, to go to the desired images
directly.

5.2. Direct search

When you already know the date and time of images you want to review, you can use the option
‘Direct search’. By clicking the time indicator once, a date/time dialogue box opens directly
above it. Here you can select a date from the calendar and enter the desired time. After each
entry the timeline immediately jumps to that specific date and time. It only takes two steps to
get to the images you want to review.

In the date/time dialogue box the days that have images available are white; the days for which
no footage is available are light grey.

You can deactivate this function by clicking once in the application window, outside the dialogue
box (for example by grabbing the timeline).

5.3. Adjusting the time scale

The scale function can be used to quickly and easily gain insight into the location of available
images. Recorded images can be viewed at a scale ranging from one second to one day. This
range is divided into six fixed time spans: one second, 10 seconds, one minute, 10 minutes, an
hour, a day. You can change this scale using the scale indicator on the bottom right corner of the
timeline, or by placing the pointer on the timeline and using the scroll wheel on your mouse.
The scale you select will apply to all recorded images you have access to in the view.

5.4. Adjusting playback speed

The playback speed control on the bottom left of the control panel can be used to set the
playback speed of images you wish to view. Standard speed is located in the centre (‘Normal’).
From there you can play back images 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64 times faster (right side) or 2, 4, 8 or 16
times slower (left side).

Normal 1x
Slow 1/16x, 1/8x, 1/4x, 1/2x
Fast 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x

5.5. Play back recorded images

To play back the recorded images, you use the control panel in the centre of the timeline.

The following options are available:

Step backward (5 seconds)

Rewind

Pause play

Start forward play

Step forward (5 seconds)
