What is Autonomous Database for Developers?
These are free autonomous databases that developers can use to build and test new applications. You must have
access to either Dedicated Exadata Infrastructure or Exadata Cloud@Customer to create and use these developer
databases. i.e., for customers who have subscribed to either Exadata Database Service or Autonomous Database on
dedicated infrastructure or Cloud@Customer

What can I do with Autonomous Database for Developers?

Developers can access a complete database experience and built-in development tools for free without worrying
about database management tasks. Autonomous Database is a multi-model database for virtually any type of data
(including relational, JSON, spatial, graph, multimedia, XML, files, and more), any workload (transactional, data
warehouse, and analytics), and any interface (full SQL, REST data access, and language drivers). Autonomous
Database for Developers includes free development tools such as Database Actions, Oracle Application Express
(APEX) for low-code app creation, Oracle REST Data Services, and powerful command-line utilities. It also supports in-
database machine learning algorithms and Select AI which enables users to query data using generative AI powered
natural language processing.

Can I have multiple Autonomous Database for Developers instances?

Yes, there is no limit on the number of free developer databases; it’s limited by the capacity of your Exadata
infrastructure.

Do these developer databases have expiration dates?

No, there are no expiration dates. You can create, start, stop, and terminate these developer databases, the same way
as regular Autonomous databases.

Who can use Autonomous Database for Developers?

Autonomous Database for Developers is for development and functional testing only. It is for developers building and
testing applications on Autonomous Database.

What ADB workloads are supported on Autonomous Database for Developers?

Transaction processing/mixed workloads (Autonomous Transaction Processing) and Analytics/data warehousing
(Autonomous Data Warehouse) are supported.

What are the resource limits for Autonomous Database for Developers?
Each developer database comes with the following:
• Compute: Fixed 4 ECPUs, with no CPU scaling
• Storage: Fixed 32 GB ( ~ 20 GB of DATA)
• Session limits: 30 concurrent database sessions

What features are included and excluded in Autonomous Database for

Developers?
Apart from Autonomous Data Guard, Database In-Memory, Long-term backups, and Auto-Scaling, all other
Autonomous Database features, such as backup and restore, patching, cloning, APEX, ORDS, Database Actions,
Performance Hub, Metrics, Notifications, APIs, and others documented here are available.

I need a larger Autonomous Database or try features not included in Autonomous

Database for Developers. What should I do?
Use database cloning to clone from Autonomous Database for Developers to a regular paid Autonomous database.

Does Autonomous Database for Developers include service level agreement (SLA)
and technical support?
Autonomous Database for Developers does not include SLA; it comes with a service level objective (SLO) of 99.5%.
You can log service requests (SR) to Oracle Support; however, there is no Severity 1 SR support for developer
databases.

Will patches be provided for Autonomous Database for Developers?

Developer databases follow the same patching schedule as regular Autonomous Database; however, there will be no
support for critical one-off patches.

Is it really free to run Autonomous Database for Developers?

Other than the Exadata Infrastructure, the only cost is database backups to the cloud, if enabled. This will be billed at
the same rate as regular Autonomous Database backups.

Can I use Autonomous Database for Developers in production?

No. Developer databases are for development use only. For load/stress testing and production deployments,
transition to a fully supported Autonomous Database.

How do I convert my Autonomous Database for Developers database to a fully
supported Autonomous Database?

Use database cloning to clone from a developer database to a fully supported/regular Autonomous database.

What are the prerequisites before I can create an Autonomous Database for
Developers database?
You need an ECPU Autonomous Container Database without Data Guard on either a dedicated Exadata Cloud
Infrastructure or an Exadata Cloud@Customer Infrastructure. If you do not have any Autonomous resources
provisioned already, create an ECPU Autonomous VM Cluster (AVM) on the Exadata and then an Autonomous
Container Database (ACD) without Data Guard using the AVM. There is no billing/cost associated with AVMs or ACDs.
Now, you can start adding developer databases to the container database.

Where can I go to learn how to create AVMs and ACDs?

See Oracle Autonomous Database on Dedicated Exadata Infrastructure documentation for details.

I am already using Autonomous Database on Dedicated Infrastructure or

Cloud@Customer, can I still use Autonomous Database for Developers?
Yes, your developers can create and use developer databases for application development.

If I already have an existing Autonomous Container Database with ADBs, can I add
developer databases to it?
Yes, developer databases can be added to any ECPU Autonomous Container Databases as long as Data Guard is not
enabled.

Where can I find more information on Autonomous Database on Dedicated

Infrastructure or Cloud@Customer?

Will Developer databases be available on other Oracle Database Cloud Services?

They will be available on other Oracle Database Cloud Services later this year.
