I. Objectives
a) Recognize examples of expanded definition of words. (EN10V-IIIe-13.9)
b) compare and contrast to give expanded definition of words; and
c) describe words to give its expanded definition.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Expanding Definitions of Words
Materials: Laptop, T.V., PowerPoint Presentation, Pictures
Reference: English 10 Quarter 3 Module 5
III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparatory Activities: Prayer, Checking of Attendance, Setting of classroom atmosphere
The teacher will start the class with a prayer, check the attendance & set the classroom atmosphere.
B. Drill/Review: Interactive oral recitation
The students will answer the given questions based on the previous discussion orally.
C. Motivation: video clip of the “Song of Autumn” by Charles Baudelaire
The students will watch the narrated video clip of the “Song of Autumn” by Charles Baudelaire.
D. Presentation: Interactive short quiz & word dragging.
The students will unlock the unfamiliar words and identify the words that has the same meaning.
E. Discussion:
The teacher will discuss further each stanza of the “Song of Autumn” by Charles Baudelaire and
introduce the three types of expanding definitions.
F. Application: Recognizing Synonyms
Students will recognize two words which have similar meanings with the italicized word and they will
be grouped as to differentiated instruction is being performed.
G. Generalization: Task 5
The students will ponder and give the importance of the lesson take away.
IV. Evaluation/Assessment: Task 6
The students will write a paragraph to expand the definition of the word in every given item.
V. Agreement: Task 7
Expand the definition of the word ‘education’.
