Exam Style Questions Travel and Tourism
A)
● 4%
● 8%
B)
● An independent traveller is somebody who travels without having the assistance of a tour guide
or tour group. They proceed to plan their own itinerary and plans during their stay
C)
● Printed Material - To catch the attention and the eye of the tourist physically
● Website - To make it more accessible for people around the globe
D)
● Occasion - Some people have migrated to or or prefer spending special occasions in other
countries which helps increase in tourists visiting their friends and family. A common example
could be marriage, birthdays and holidays since these occasions are usually spent along with
family and friends. An example scenario may be: Travis and Taylor are from the US, however
Selena invites them to attend the wedding in France. Taylor and Travis will now travel to France
for the purpose of visiting Selena for her wedding.
● Work - Similar to occasion, some people would be migrated or relocated based on the company’s
decision and due to relocation, their family and friends may choose to visit the person that
relocated or vice versa. An example would be if Miguel was relocated to New York and Mari visits
him for the purpose of spending time together.
E)
● Having more flexible and eye-catching new products available will allow hotels to extend their
season since they will be able to offer flexible products and events. An example would be special
deals that can only be obtained on certain months or dates which would make tourists interested
to partake in the activity since it isn't seen often. This could be used in scenarios like festivals,
holidays, etc. These types of events will attract tourists to have a gist of the culture or
traditions that the hotel will show in these events or products.
● Another way is to do the opposite (in a way), the hotel can provide products or services that will
be accessible the whole year for the same reason: to peak the interest of tourist to have a gist
of the culture or products and gain a certain experience.
2.
A)
● Canada/Rockies
● Cruising/Music Cruises
B)
● These could be seen as a supplement targeted for people travelling in groups, families, or
couples.
C)
● Jerusalem - Israel (To visit religious places)
● Mount Everest - Nepal or China (for hiking)
D)
● it’s cruising since some business related events may happen in cruises (especially incentives).
This can be used as a reward for the workers who worked hard and gained an achievement, a
company may use this as a reward.
● Another way could be having business related events happen on cruise ships but this time
perhaps conventions and exhibitions from different companies checking how the other
companies are doing or their progress.
E)
● A short break is seen as a non-business related travel where the tourists stay for less than
four nights while long haul talks about the flight. Long haul flights are flights which take more
than 6 hours of flight time. An example could be the flight time of New York to The Philippines.
3.
A)
● The resort uses solar power along with using food waste as compost
B)
● Sustainable Tourism refers to sustainable methods used in and by the travel and tourist sector.
Recognizing both the positive and negative effects of tourism is a goal. It seeks to maximise the
good effects while minimising the negative ones.
C)
● One way can be seen if the hotel can provide events where they celebrate the countries’ holidays
or traditions (refer to 1E bullet point 1 since I have the similar idea). Another may be seen if
the hotel may serve their local cuisine in buffets for the guest to try and eat
D)
● As I stated for letter c, we can cater to people in need of special help by providing caretakers or
having accessibility to items useful for people with disabilities (such as cranes, wheelchairs,
crunches, and having braille with the elevator numbers). Hotels may provide special caretakers
upon request to ensure the customers in need of help will receive the said help. Having other
equipment (from the list stated earlier) so that customers that are uncomfortable with asking
for assistance would still have their needs met. Having these available for people with special
needs will ensure that the guest will have a more enjoyable stay because of less struggle.
E)
● Their behaviour may differ since an independent individual traveller will be solo meaning they’re
responsible for their own behaviour and have more control of their surroundings whereas
families will have to monitor and make sure all children are well behaved which would be more
challenging since some children have the tendency to not listen or do things differently. So i’d
say, independent solo travellers have easier control on being responsible when travelling
compared to a family.
