What is drama method?

-Drama is a teaching method, which would allow students to explore the curriculum using several of
Gardner's multiple intelligences. Students are fully involved in learning with drama. They are immersed
into the subject. Their bodies, minds, and emotions are extremely active when they become engrossed
in the drama.

Dramatization is a teaching strategy used by teachers to promote and strengthen mastery of the English
Language for sustained learner achievement.

According to Savela (2009) dramatization help students to use their language skills and learn of life
through these real-life activities.

The history of dramatization in education

The use of drama has been used over the course of history from the time of Aristotle, who believed that
theatre provided people a way to release emotions, right to the beginning of the progressive movement
in education, where emphasis was placed upon "doing" rather than memorizing. Integrating drama helps
children in various ways.

 Ancient theater
 Middle Ages theater
 Modern drama

Types of drama activities that can be applied in the literature classroom

 Role play
 Improvisation
 Mime
 Playlet

Why should we use dramatization in Literature classroom

-It develops the students' performance skills.

- It ensures students' involvement through verbal and non-verbal communication


- It extends the emotional range of expressions of the students

- It increases students' motivation, participation, confidence and fluency in the spoken English as well as
communication through the body language.

How we incorporate drama into our daily routine:

1.Set the stage. Show off your acting chops in a way students can imitate. ...

2.Provide opportunities for low risk-or no audience-performance. Put students in small groups or
partnerships and slowly build up their confidence. ...

Application of the Drama Method in Teaching Literacy through Literature

Instruction:

I have here a chart inside of which there are paper strips where the famous lines of actors and actresses
in the movie industry and teleseryes are written, as well as the characters of Noli Me Tangere, written by
our own Jose P. Rizal.

Then, based on the strips, you will pick one that you are going to read and portray in front of the class.
