Checking of Attendance
A) Reviewing previous To review our lesson yesterday let us first have a short game. The game will be called “4
lesson or presenting the pics 1 word-Mathematics Version” are you familiar with that game? You will guess the
new lesson words based on related pictures posted.
B) Establishing the Motivation:
purpose for the lesson

Match each solid shape to its name and net.

Wonderful!

C) Presenting
examples/instances of
A while ago I saw a mystery door in our classroom. Who wants to see the mystery door and
the new lesson
find what’s inside? Anyone?

Door 1
What can you see inside?

- Rubric cube, die, and gift present.

What kind of shape?

- square

Very Good!

Door 2

What can you see inside?

- Cereal, aquarium, and shoe box.

What kind of shape?

- rectangle

Awesome!
Door 3

What can you see inside?

- chocolate, Tent, and swing.

What kind of shape?

- Triangle

Wonderful!

What is Surface Area?

- Surface Area is the sum of the areas of the base(s) and the lateral faces of a solid
figure.
A. Surface Area of a Cube

- The surface area of a cube is the sum of the area of the six squares that cover it.

- If s is the length of one of its sides, then the area of one face of the cube is S².
- Since a cube has six faces, the surface area of a cube is six times the area of one face.

Surface area of a cube = 6s²

Example:

B. Surface Area of Prism [Rectangular Prism]

FORMULA:
Surface Area=2(length x width) + 2(length x height) + 2(width x height)
or
SA=2(lh) + 2(lw) + 2(hw)

Example: Solve for the surface area of the given figure:

C. Surface Area of Prism [Triangular Prism]

FORMULA:

Surface Area= length (l) x width (w) which is the sum of the ( s1 + s2 + s3) and it is the
perimeter of a triangle. Therefor, the formula of the lateral area is length (l) x perimeter (p)
bh
of a triangle. next add the area of the bases which the formula is 2 ( ¿ now we can simply
2
cancel the 2 since 2 divided by 2 is 1 so the formula will be base (b) x height (h).

SA= (l)(p) + (b)(h)

Example: Solve for the surface area of the given figure:

D) Discussing new Individual Activity:

concepts and practicing
new skills #1

Directions: Tell whether each statement is TRUE or FALSE. If TRUE raise your like
emoticon and if not raise your dislike emoticon.

___________1. Surface area is the product of the area of the base and the lateral face.
___________2. It would take exactly 4 squares to wrap a cube completely.
___________3. The surface area of a rectangular prism is the sum of its length and
perimeter.
___________4. To calculate the surface area of a cube, just find the area of
one face and multiply it by 6.
___________5. The lateral area of a prism is the product of the base and the
height.

E. Discussing new
concepts and
practicing new skills Group Activity:
#2

Be a HERO.

⮚ In doing the activity, members must Help each other.

⮚ Encourage yourself to share ideas and follow instructions.

⮚ Respect each other in the group.

⮚ Observe cleanliness, silence and timeliness.

Group 1: fold the following net figure and name it.

Group 2: Find the surface area of each solid figure.

2.

Group 3: Analyze and solve each problem write your complete

solution.

JM is making a birthday gift for his father’s birthday. The box for the gift he is
using is a rectangular prism with a length of 4m, a width of 2m and a height of 3m. How
many square meters of paper does he need to wrap the entire box?

F. Developing
Mastery (Leads to
Formative Find the surface area of the objects.
Assessment)

3.

Ramon wanted to surprise her mother on her birthday, so he made a wooden jewelry
box for her. Each side of the box measured 2 inches. How many square inches of wood did
he use in making the box?

G. Finding Practical Practical Applications:

applications of
concepts and skills in
daily living Directions: Read the problem carefully and solve.

Today is the first day of work of Tim as a salesman but he assigned in wrapping
present station. Let’s help Tim on his first day of work. The box he is using is a rectangular
prism with a length of 15 inches, a width of 9 inches, and a height of 4 inches. Find how
many square inches of paper he needs to wrap the entire box.

H. Making How to find the surface areas of cubes, rectangular prism, and triangular prism.
generalization and
abstractions about the
lesson
To find the surface area of cubes, rectangular prisms, and triangular prism, you may
use the following formula:

Surface Area = Lateral Areas (L.A.) + Base Areas (B)

SA of Rectangular prism = 2lw + 2lh + hw

SA of Cube = 6 s2

SA of Triangular prism = lp + bh
I. Evaluating

V. REMARKS “Until you treat everyone as an equal, you have no right to complain about the treatment you receive from
anyone.”

VI. REFLECTIONS Reflect on your teaching and assess yourself as a teacher. Think about your student’s progress this week. What
works? What else needs to be done to help the students learn? Identify what help your instructional supervisors
can provide for you so when you meet them, you can ask them relevant questions.

A. No. of learners who

earned 80% in the
evaluation

B. No. of learners who

require additional
activities for
