Adongo has always been interested in computers. She used to go to uncle
Kibule’s house in Kasoko to watch him work with one. Adongo would watch him
press keys and then she would see numbers and words move up and down on
the screen. When Adongo’s uncle saw how interested she was in computers, he
promised to teach her how to operate them.

When she went to start the first lesson, uncle Kibuule told her that she had to
know what computers are first. A computer is a machine that be used to do very
many things, for example, you can do calculations, store information and control
other machines with a computer. Computers are some of the modern technology
today. Computers have made people’s work easier and of better quality. One
computer can do work of ten people. (Computers are used in offices, factories or
at home for personal use.)

“What are you doing on the computer now?” Adongo asked her uncle “Right now
I am keying in some information about business into the computer through the
keyboard,” uncle Kibuule said. “You see a computer can store all kinds of
information including numbers, words, pictures and sounds. This information is
stored in the computer memory. One thing you should remember is that
information stored in the computer gets lost if electricity supply is cut off. So you
must always instruct the computer to save the information as you work and
before you switch it off.
