Abstract
This report presents the results of an experiment lab on AND, OR, resistor, and diode
logic. The experiment aimed to investigate the behavior of these logic gates and their
applications in digital circuits. The report outlines the experimental setup, including the
equipment used and the procedures followed. The approaches used to analyze the data
collected are also described. The findings of the experiment show that the AND and OR
gates can be used to perform logical operations on binary inputs, while the resistor and
diode logic gates can be used to perform analog operations. The report also highlights
the importance of understanding the behavior of these logic gates in designing and
troubleshooting digital circuits. The outcomes of the experiment demonstrate the
practical applications of logic gates in digital electronics and provide a foundation for
further research in this field.

Introduction
This lab report presents the results of an experiment on AND, OR, resistor, and diode
logic as showing in fig(1). The experiment aimed to investigate the behavior of these
logic gates and their applications in digital circuits. The report includes the following
sections:

Background
Diode logic (DL) or diode resistor logic (DRL) is a logic family that uses only diodes
and resistors to implement logic functions. The main drawback of the diode logic family
is that it is not complete, as the inverter (NOT) function cannot be implemented using
diode logic. The AND & OR gates can be implemented using diode logic, which is a
simple and cost-effective approach for digital circuits as showing in fig (2).

Technical Background
The AND gate is a logic gate that performs a logical AND operation on two
binary inputs. The OR gate is a logic gate that performs a logical OR operation on two
binary inputs. The resistor and diode logic gates are used to perform analog operations
in digital circuits.
General Background:
You would seen the internal construction of And & Or gate as below:

Datasheets
 OR gate
The OR gate differs from the AND gate in that only ONE input has to be
HIGH to produce a HIGH output. An easy way to remember the OR gate is
that any HIGH input will yield a HIGH output.

Experiment Objectives
The aims of the lab experiment were:
1. To study the behavior of AND and OR gates constructed using resistor diode
logic.
2. To investigate the applications of resistor and diode logic gates in digital circuits.
3. To gain practical experience in designing and troubleshooting digital circuits
using logic gates.

Experiment Tools
The experiment was conducted using the following equipment:
1. Power supply
2. Digital multimeter
3. 2x Diodes (1N4007)
4. 1kΩ Resistor
5. 2x Switches

 The experiment followed the procedures outlined in the lab manual, and the data
collected was analyzed using the appropriate approaches. The findings of the
experiment are presented in the subsequent sections, along with a discussion of the
important outcomes and their implications for the field of digital electronics.

Input switching :
Different input voltages were applied, and the output voltages were
measured and recorded to verify the operation of the constructed gates
.Output Verification: The output voltages were measured and recorded for
the different input combinations to demonstrate the behavior of the logic
gates. Analysis of Output: The output voltages were analyzed to understand
the characteristics and behavior of the AND and OR gates implemented using
diode-resistor logic as showing in table |(1,2)
Understanding Diode Logic:
The experiment aimed to provide a practical understanding of diode-
resistor logic and its application in implementing basic logic functions.
The procedures involved practical construction, voltage measurements, and
analysis to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the behavior and
applications of AND, OR, resistor, and diode logic in digital circuits

 Conclusion
In conclusion, The objectives of the experiment were successfully
achieved. The experiment focused on the construction and analysis of basic
logic gates, including the AND & OR gates, using diode-resistor logic
(DRL). By implementing the DRL circuits, the behavior of these logic gates
was studied, and their applications in digital circuits were explored. The key
findings of the experiment include:
The construction of AND & OR gates using diodes and resistors, and the
verification of their operation.
The understanding of the behavior of DRL circuits in representing and
processing digital signals.
The practical application of DRL in implementing basic logic functions,
laying the foundation for more complex digital systems.
The experiment's outcomes demonstrate the significance of DRL in digital
electronics and provide valuable insights into the practical implementation
of logic gates using diodes and resistors. The successful construction and
analysis of the logic gates validate the effectiveness of DRL in performing
fundamental logical operations, thereby fulfilling the aims of the experiment.
The findings from this experiment contribute to the understanding of digital
logic and provide a solid basis for further exploration and application of DRL
in the design and development of digital systems.
