Geometry, Part 2 Unit 1 Worksheet Student Name: _____________

Poster – Similar Right Triangles (4 different concepts)

Each concept must include the word, formula, example problem, and your understanding of the term/formula written in your own words with a
minimum of three complete sentences.

Choose from the following concepts to include on your poster: Sine, Cosine, Tangent, Inverse Sine, Inverse Cosine, Inverse Tangent, Angle of
Elevation, Angle of Depression, Law of Sine, and Law of Cosine.

Description in my own words: e Sine function is a trigonometric opposite/adjacent. e opposite side is again, the side opposite to the given
function. e formula is Sin = Opposite/Hypotenuse. e opposite side is angle or the angle you are trying to find. e adjacent side is the side that is
the side opposite to either the given angle or the angle you are trying to
find. e hypotenuse is the longest diagonal side of the triangle. In this neither the opposite side, nor the hypotenuse, it is the third side. In this
problem, we were given the angle already, but we were asked to find the problem, we are asked to find the opposite. As with the other problem, you

Example Problem
Description in my own words: Contrary to the law of sines, the law of
cosines is beneficial when you are given 3 sides or 2 sides and 1 angle. It is a
relation between the length of sides of a triangle and angles in a triangle,
similar to the law of sines, but you can’t always use them in the same
situations, which is why they are di ferentiated. In this case, we can use
one of the 3 formulas given. For this problem, we are asked to find side a, so
we use the first formula. We can then plug in the values of each of the sides
and the angle. en we square root both sides in order to simplify and get
that side a is roughly 21.5.

Description in my own words: e Law of Sines is a law that is used

primarily for non-right triangles. It is a ratio between the sine of the 3
angles in the triangle and 3 side lengths of the triangle. In this problem,
instead of using B and C for the ratio, I had to substitute them for E and F.
We are asked to find side e in this problem. For one ratio, we can add the
sin 67 but put e on the bottom as it is the side we don’t know and are trying
to find. en for the other ratio, we can add sin 54 as it is given to us as well
as its corresponding side of 7 in order to complete the ratio. en with all
ratios, we can cross multiply. From there we can isolate the e in order to get
a final equation that we can do on our calculator in order to get a final
value of e that is roughly equal to 8. Meaning the missing side is roughly
equal to 8. e law of sines is beneficial when they give you 1 angle and 2
sides or 2 angles and 1 side. Like all of these formulas, you can use it to find
for examples an angle measure instead of a side length.
