Objectives:
 Determine if a given graph is a function or a relation
 Determine the domain and range for a given graph.
 Apply the distributive law to find the algebraic expansion of a monomial and
binomial 𝑎(𝑐 + 𝑑) and of two binomials (𝑎 + 𝑏)(𝑐 + 𝑑)
 Remove common factors/brackets from polynomials
 Factorize quadratic trinomials 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐, where 𝑎 ≥ 1
 Solve quadratic equations using a variety of methods:
o Taking the square root for equations of the form 𝑥 = 𝑘
o Apply null factor law/rule of zero to solve quadratic equations by
factorization (when 𝑎 = 1 and when 𝑎 > 1)
o Quadratic formula (formula will be given)
o Using a graph
 Establish the equation of the axis of symmetry for a parabola.
 Sketch parabolas by hand if given sufficient information.
 Apply and interpret the three forms of a quadratic function:
o Standard form 𝑦 = 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐
o Intercept form 𝑦 = 𝑎(𝑥 − 𝑝)(𝑥 − 𝑞)
o Vertex form 𝑦 = 𝑎(𝑥 − ℎ) + 𝑘
 Write the equation of a parabola if given:
o the zeros and one other point - solve for 𝑎, using 𝑦 = 𝑎(𝑥 − 𝑟 )(𝑥 − 𝑟 )
o the vertex and one other point - solve for 𝑎, using 𝑦 = 𝑎(𝑥 − ℎ) + 𝑘
 Use technology to identify and analyze key features of a function (axes intercepts,
maximum/minimum values)
 Interpret a contextual situation to solve real life problems using quadratic theory,
with and without technology.
