1. Enter the following data in SPSS, and then,

Height of students in meter: 1.557, 1.678, 1.7, 1.898, 1.666, 1.5, 1.6, 1.645, 1.45, 1.77

Grade of introduction to statistics: B, A, B, C, C, D, A, B, B, C

Students monthly average income in birr: 200, 750, 1200, 2300, 150, 3250, 350, 430, 780, 825

a. Use the appropriate attributes!

b. Assign the label value of 0=female and 1=male for sex variable.
c. Create the new variable called “BMI” from weight and height of students. Use the

formula of 𝐵𝑀𝐼 =

d. Use Age variable, and then categorize it into “agecat” with values of 0 for <21 years, 1

for 22-25 years and 2 for >26 years’ students.

e. Use sex variable, and then recode in to sex1 variable with values of 8888 for female and

999 for male.

f. Without delating any data, select the data for female students only!

2. Use the demo.sav data set, then


 Write the process/menu’s you followed to get the output, before
displaying it,
 Check the assumptions, where they needed, and
 Write the brief description or interpretation for your outputs
a. Compute and summarize the N, minimum, maximum, and mean for age,
income and car variable
b. What is the mean age for female groups?
c. How many numbers of males are highly satisfied to their job?
d. Create at least one using
e. For variables like, Age in years (age), marital status (marital), house old
income (income), price of primary vehicle (car) and level of education (ed)
create at least one appropriate chart/graph from pie chart, histogram, simple,
clustered and stacked bar chart. Please add the appropriate title, size, axis
name, colors and footnote for all created charts.
f. Use the same variables in (d) and compute the mean, median, and mode for
the appropriate variables.
g. For Age in years (age) and house old income (income) variables, compute the
skewness and kurtosis, then summarize the result.
h. Use variables listed in (d), and construct the frequency table for the nominal
and ordinal variables.
3. Use “Employee” data set from SPSS samples, then
 Identify the appropriate test for the claim
 Write the possible null and alternative hypothesis,
 Write all menus you followed to get the output,
 Give the decision for your hypothesis test, and
 Write the valid and clear interpretation for your output for the following
questions.
a. At 5% level of significant, is there enough evidence to say that the mean
beginning salary of custodial is less than $30,000.
b. Is there a significant difference between clerical and custodial job category on
employees current salary?
c. Is there a statistically significant difference between beginning salaries and
current salaries of custodial?
d. Assume the population variances among groups are constant, and the
samples are from normality distribution, and then test the claim that there is
no significant difference in job categories of employment (managerial, clerical
and custodial) on their salary change. If there, which group(s) that is (are)
significantly different? (Use salary change = current salary – beginning
salary).
