COMPUTER NETWORKS

SEMESTER-IV
ASSIGNMENT 02

Name: Sarwajeet Pratap Singh

PRN: 20220802013
Batch: A1

Aim:
Create a networking assignment using Cisco Packet Tracer for a two-floor building with
separate routers on each floor, along with common services like DHCP, email, and FTP
servers.
Objective:
Design and implement a network for a two-floor building using Cisco
Packet Tracer, including separate routers for each floor, common services, and
computer labs.

Requirements:
1) Two router (one for each floor)
2) Common services: DHCP server, email server and FTP sever
3) Atleast 5 computer labs on each floor.
4) Each lab contains at least 7 PC.
5) Use of wall mounts and patch panels are mandatory.
6) Proper IP addressing scheme for both floors.
NETWORK DIAGRAM:

1) Building Layout:
o The building consists of two floors.
o Each floor hosts multiple computer labs.
o Placement of routers and servers:
o Router 1: Placed on Floor 1
o Router 2: Placed on Floor 2
o Common services (DHCP, email, FTP servers): Placed centrally for
accessibility from both floors.
o Wall mounts and patch panels are used for organized cable management.
2) Network Setup:
IP Addressing Scheme:
o Floor 1: Subnet 192.168.1.0/24
o Floor 2: Subnet 192.168.2.0/24
Configuring: Routers
 Router 1
 IP Address: 192.168.1.1
 Interfaces: Connected to Floor 1 devices
 Router 2:
 IP Address: 192.168.2.1
 Interfaces: Connected to Floor 2 devices
 Routing: Set up routing between routers to facilitate inter-floor
communication.

3) Server Configuration:
Common Services
 DHCP Server:
 Configured to provide IP addresses for both floors.
 Email Server (SMTP):
 Configured for email communication across the network.
 FTP Server:
 Configured for file sharing among devices.
4) Computer Labs Setup:
Configuration:
 Each computer lab configured with appropriate IP settings.
 Different subnets assigned to each lab on both floors for efficient network
management.
 Connectivity tested within each lab and with other network devices.

5) Testing and Troubleshooting:

Testing:
 Connectivity between devices tested thoroughly.
 Functionality of DHCP, email, and FTP services verified across both floors.
Troubleshooting:
 Identified and resolved any connectivity issues promptly.
 Ensured correct IP configurations and routing configurations.

6) Device Requirements:
 ISR4331 routers:
 Two routers are required, one for each floor.
 Switch PT-Empty:
 One switch per floor for connecting the computer labs.
 PCs:
 5 labs/floor*7 PCs/lab*2Floors = 70PCs.

7) IP addressing Table:

8) Functionality and Accessibility of Services:

DHCP Service:
Functionality:
 The DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) service is responsible for
automatically assigning IP addresses to devices on the network.
 It eliminates the need for manual configuration of IP addresses, subnet masks,
and default gateways on each device.
Accessibility:
 DHCP service is implemented using a dedicated DHCP server.
 The DHCP server is configured with DHCP pools for each subnet (Floor 1 and
Floor 2).
 DHCP clients (PCs) are configured to obtain IP addresses automatically.
 To verify functionality:
 PCs should successfully obtain IP addresses from the DHCP server.
 Assigned IP addresses should be within the specified ranges for each subnet.
 PCs should be able to communicate with other devices on the network using the
assigned IP addresses.
Email Service:
Functionality:
 The email service enables communication through electronic mail (email)
between users on the network.
 It utilizes standard email protocols such as SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer
Protocol) for sending and receiving emails.
Accessibility:
 An email server (SMTP) is configured to handle email communication within the
network.
 The email server is centrally located for accessibility from both floors.
 To verify functionality:
 Users should be able to send and receive emails within the network.
 Email clients (e.g., Outlook, Thunderbird) should be configured with appropriate
email server settings.
 Emails should be successfully delivered to recipients within the network. FTP
Service: Functionality:
 The FTP (File Transfer Protocol) service enables file sharing and transfer between
devices on the network.
 It allows users to upload, download, and manage files stored on an FTP server.
Accessibility:
 An FTP server is configured to host shared files accessible to users within the
network.
 The FTP server is centrally located for accessibility from both floors.
 To verify functionality:
 Users should be able to connect to the FTP server using FTP client software (e.g.,
FileZilla).
 Users should be able to upload and download files to and from the FTP server.
 Proper authentication mechanisms should be in place to ensure secure access to
shared files.
