How to upgrade a TP-Link Omada Switch?

TP-Link Omada switches support Dual Image. One image is set as the next startup image and
the other is set as the backup image.

After you upgrade a firmware, the switch will automatically map the firmware file to the backup
image.

Please read the following notes then follow the steps for upgrading.

Note:

Please confirm the hardware version of your switch before upgrading. You can check the
hardware version on the label on the bottom of the switch (pictured below).

If there is no special statement, Ver x0 and Ver x6 can share the same firmware, such as Ver
1.0 and Ver 1.6, Ver 1.20 and Ver 1.26.

Be aware that incorrect firmware upgrades can damage your device and void your
warranty.

Download the firmware from the TP-Link Download Center according to your device model
number and hardware version.

Unzip the download file to get the firmware with ".bin" file extension, and remember the
storage path.

Do not turn off the power or disconnect the Ethernet cable during the upgrade process.
It is highly recommended to backup the configuration before upgrading, although it is
usually retained during upgrading.

Step 1. Upload new firmware.

Choose the menu SYSTEM > System Tools > Firmware Upgrade, click Browse, go to the storage
path and choose the firmware. The new firmware will be mapped to the backup image after
upgrading.

Step 2. Automatic or Manual Upgrade?

Now it's time to decide whether to automatically or manually upgrade.

Auto upgrade means the switch will do the upgrade and reboot automatically, after which it will
run the new firmware. Please go to Step 3.

Manual upgrade means the switch maps the new firmware to the backup image, but keeps the
current firmware running. To activate the new firmware, you need to manually reboot the switch,
after which the new firmware will work. Please go to Step 4.

Step 3. Auto Upgrade

Check "Reboot the switch using the backup image after upgrading is completed", then click
Upgrade. After upgrading, the switch will reboot automatically and run with the new firmware.
Step 4. Manual Upgrade

If you wish to keep the current image after upgrading and configure it to reboot with the
backup image manually, leave "Reboot the switch using the backup image after upgrading is
completed" unchecked, and click Upgrade. It will take several minutes to upgrade, please wait
and do not perform any operations.

Choose the menu SYSTEM > System Tools > Boot Config, here the image table shows that the
next startup image is image 1, the backup image is image 2, and new firmware has been
upgraded and mapped to image 2. With the current boot config, the switch will always start up
with image 1, thus the new firmware will not take effect.
If you need to activate the new firmware, set the next startup image as Image_2.bin, and
backup image as Image_1.bin, click Apply. Then choose the menu SYSTEM > System Tools >
System Reboot , > System Reboot, you can reboot the switch immediately or create a reboot
schedule to make it take effect. Note to check "Save the current configuration before reboot"
then click Reboot. After rebooting, the switch will run the new firmware.
