Programme in Aeronautical Engineering Bihar Engineering University (BEU), Patna

A) Course Title: Engineering Mathematics-III

B) Course Code:

C) Pre-requisite Course (s): Mathematics-I, Mathematics-II

D) Rationale:
Engineering Mathematics is the core applied course to develop the competencies of most of the
technological applicative approaches towards the various Engineering Programs. Engineering and allied
programs involve dealing with various quantitative aspects, including measurements, material properties,
production analysis of data, quality control, and optimization.
Teaching probability helps engineering students make decisions under uncertainty, analyzing the
reliability of systems, and is also used in quality control processes in manufacturing. Proficiency in
Statistics enables students to analyze and interpret quantitative data accurately. Statistical methods are
useful to evaluate and optimize engineering problems, conduct experiments, analyze experimental data,
and make data-driven decisions for process improvement and quality enhancement. Graph theory is
fundamental for analyzing and optimizing networks, especially for communication systems or
transportation networks, it also forms the basis of many optimization algorithms. Fuzzy set theory is
valuable in engineering when dealing with vague, imprecise, or uncertain information. It's particularly
useful in control systems, robotics, and decision-making processes and also helps in managing
uncertainties more effectively than traditional binary logic. Optimization techniques are critical for
engineers to maximize the efficiency of systems and processes while minimizing resource consumption.
Engineers use optimization algorithms to design products and systems that meet performance criteria while
minimizing costs and materials. In industrial and systems engineering, optimization is used to streamline
supply chain logistics and ensure the timely delivery of products. The course provides insight to analyze
engineering problems scientifically using Statistical Techniques, optimization techniques, Graph Theory,
and elements of fuzzy set theory. These subjects are fundamental to contemporary engineering practice
and are vital for fostering innovation and problem-solving skills in future engineers.
E) Course Outcomes (COs): After the completion of the course, teachers are expected to
ensure the accomplishment of following industry-expected course outcomes by the learners.
