Instructions for Preparation of Practical Training Report

The following text describes some useful guidelines for vii semester students of CS/IT branches for submitting their project reports. These guidelines have been prepared to serve as a common format for this purpose. (1) Cover Page:


On the very top of the cover page a heading line should appear which reads as: A Practical Training Report / Project Report on(Font- Times new roman). It should be followed by title of the project, which may occupy 2 or 3 lines, but should be perfectly centered on the page. After this the following text should appear(Font-Italics-12). Submitted in partial fulfillment of Bachelor of Engineering degree in CS/IT Branch of the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Below the institute logo has to appear. Below the logo the following line should appear:(Font-Times new roman 12) Academic Session 20011-12 Below this the following text should appear( Font- Times new roman 14) Guided/Submitted by: Name and Designation Submitted by: of project guide Names of students At the very bottom of the cover page the following text should appear (Font- Times new roman 16) Name of the Department (CS/IT) Swami Keshvanand Institute of Technology, Management & Gramothan, Jaipur. This is the complete design of the cover page.

while the text of this should be in Font-Times new roman 14).

The name of Project Guide, Project Title, and name of H.O.D. may be bold faced. Management should be given thanks for providing facilities to carry out the project. At the bottom the names of student appear in Font-Times new roman 12 bold faced.

(4) Content: (Font-Times new roman 14):


The various chapters should be numbered as 1,2 etc. On the RHS page no. should be given All pages in the report have to be numbered. The various chapter heading in the contents should be bold faced but various sections and subsection should not use bold face. The font should be Times new roman 12.

(5) Resume and Summery:


A concise summery not exceeding 1 page should be included under this heading. This summaries the entire project end give important results and achievements of the project.

(6) Chapters:
The various chapters in the report to be followed are given in the enclosed TABLE OF CONTENTS .Titles are reproduced below: CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION CHAPTER 2 PROJECT DESIGN CHAPTER 3 PROJECT METHODOLOGY CHAPTER 4 LIMITATION AND FURTHER SCOPE This is very important part of the project report. This should summaries all the major results achieved in the project and also provide analysis of the various results. Conclusions should be properly summarized and various finding of the project should be reported clearly.

Remember that this section well written alone specifies the depth reached in the project work. Failure analysis: If the desired results are not obtained, the detailed analysis of the limiting factors responsible should be carried out.

(7) Appendices:
Appendices are provided to give supplementary information, which is included in the main text may serve as a distraction and cloud the central theme. Appendices should be numbered using Arabic numerals, e.g. Appendix 1, Appendix 2, etc. Appendices, Tables and References appearing in appendices should be numbered and referred to at appropriate places just as in the case of chapters. Appendices shall carry the title of the work reported and the same title shall be made in the contents page also.

(8) List of References:


The listing of references should be typed 4 spaces below the heading REFERENCES in alphabetical order in single spacing left justified. The reference material should be listed in the alphabetical order of the first author. The name of the author/authors should be immediately followed by the year and other details.

Some addition points about report writing are as follows:

1. Margins for text:


The following margins may serve as general guideline for report writing: Right Margin (25 mm), Left Margin (25 mm), Top Margin (25 mm), Bottom Margin (35 mm). Text typing be in single spacing (Font-Times new roman 12).

2. Numbering:
It is to be clearly noted that all pages in the report should be properly numbered and the same are specified in the contents. Cover page and Certificate page should be counted but should not be numbered. Pages from cover page to resume should be numbered i, ii, iii, iv etc. From Chapter 1 onwards pages should be numbered 1,2,3,4 etc.

3. Printing and binding of report:


Each group has to provide two copies- one for the department and other for the project guide. Both these should be hard bound. The binding of reports by individual students can be as per their choice. Each chapter should be started a fresh from the next page. Report should be printed only on one side.
