1.0 INTRODUCTION
 Packaging is the science, art and technology of
enclosing or protecting products for distribution,
storage, sale, and use (Selke, 2004).
 Packaging as we know it today is the result of a long
development process. It is the product of continuous
research aimed at finding better methods of
packaging various goods, including food, in order to
ensure the best protection for them.
2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 HISTORY OF PACKAGING
 The earliest humans who found a large leaf to carry
water away from a stream created the first
rudimentary Packaging and ideas on industry that still
endures today. For centuries, people have used various
materials to assist in the protection, storage and
transportation of a wider range of items.
TYPES OF PACKAGING
▶Primary packaging
Primary packaging is the packaging in direct contact with
the product itself and is sometimes referred to as a
consumer unit.
▶Secondary packaging
Secondary Packaging is the packaging used to protect at
least one primary package and a product in it.
▶Tertiary packaging
This is a type of packaging designed to facilitate the
handling and transport of a number of sales units or
grouped packaging inorder to prevent physical handling
and transport damage.

4. Chemical change, e.g. mental corrosion, coffee
rancidity.
5. Moisture Gain and Loss
CONCLUSION

 Recent food packaging technology has focused on


developing sustainable solutions to reduce
environmental waste and improve food preservation,
quality, and safety. These innovations include edible
packaging, smart packaging, biodegradable packaging,
nanotechnology, and plant-based packaging.
