Grade 10 Geography Term 2 Plan

Week 1 and Week 2 - 31/03/2020 to 10/04/2020

Based on the very poor results of the term 1 assessments there is a need to revise all work.
Redraw diagrams, label clearly and write in words what is happening in the diagrams.
There are copies of all the power point notes from Term 1, as well as a very good study guide
from Via Afrika Publishers, in the Google Classroom set up for you.

Complete the following Formative Assessment Tasks (FAT) to ensure you can answer this
topic in the exams:

The Structure of The Earth
1. The internal structure of Earth, page 140

 Draw the diagram, Figure 3.2, into your books and fully label it.

 Find the definitions/explanations of the following terms – sima, sial, Moho


Discontinuity/Boundary and add them to your diagram.
2. Types of Rocks, page 141 - 144

 Make a set of clear and easy to follow notes on the different types of rocks, you must
include how they were formed, what they look like and what they are used for.

 Go outside into your garden/ look around your house/look at the ground or buildings
near you - find three different rocks and try work out which type they belong to, give a
reason for each choice. Take a photo of the rocks and your reasons and email it to
Ms Cherry by 15/04/2020.
3. The Rock Cycle, page 147

 Think back to grade 9 NS and use the information on page 147 to help you answer
Activity 4, page 147.
4. South Africa’s Geology, page 148 and 149

 Do Activity 5 and hand in your answers on Friday 17 April (Day 5).


If the lockdown period is extended at this point you must email your answers to Ms
Cherry by 11:59 on 17/04/2020.

5. Intrusive Igneous Features, page 150

 Draw the diagram, Figure 3.25, labelled it with both the term and the definition. Use
about ½ page to give yourself enough space. This is an important diagram and features
as it is a common exam question.
6. Landforms and Rock Types, page 151-152

 From your grade 9 memory:


Draw a side view sketch of a conical hill, a mesa and a butte, use the text on page 151
to describe each of those landforms.

 Use page 152 to make notes on sedimentary and metamorphic rock landforms.

7. Continental Drift and Plate Tectonics, page 153-156


Use the information provided and draw a mind-map of this concept.
You must take a photo of it and email it to Ms Cherry by 11:59 on 24/04/2020

8. Plate Boundaries page 157-159

 Draw the diagram, Figure 3.36, and then use it and the key words block to answer
Activity 10, page 157. This is important as these always come up in exams.

 Make notes on the different types of landforms found at the plate boundaries (make
sure you can recognise them in a diagram.)

Week 5 – 28/04/2020 to 30/04/2020 (Remember 27th April and 1st May are Public Holidays
but you will probably have to work)
9. Rock Folding, page 162-164

 Draw the following diagrams, Figure 3.43, Figure 3.44 and Figure 3.45. Make sure you
label them properly and can explain each in a few sentences. These diagrams are
important!
10. Rock Faulting, page 165-167

 Draw the following diagrams, Figure 3.48 and Figure 3.49. Make sure you label them
properly and can explain each in a few sentences. These diagrams are important!

Week 6 – 04/05/2020 to 08/05/2020


This week is your big assessment task! You need to create two posters – one on Earthquakes
and one on Volcanoes. Each poster must have the following information:

 How it is formed/types

 Where it happens (most likely places)

 How it is measured

 What are the effects of the disaster – positive and negative

 Images must be neat, clear relevant

 Information must be to-the-point, logical and geographically accurate
