DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATH 1

APRIL 6, 2024

I. Objectives
At the end of the discussion, students will demonstrate at least 75% accuracy in :

a. estimate and measure lengths using non-standard units of linear measures;

b. appreciate the importance of measuring length in various contexts; and
c. Perform to measure an object using non- standard units

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Estimating and Measuring Lengths Using Non-standard units of Linear
Measures M1ME- IVd-20
B. References: Grade 1 Module
C. Materials: Laptop, PPT, Picture

III. Learning Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities

Teacher’s Activities Student’s Activities

A. Prayer

Please stand up and let us pray The student will pray

B. Greetings

Good morning class. Good morning Ma’am, classmates. It’s nice

to see you
C. Class Conditioning

Before we start our lesson, kindly arrange The students will arrange their desks and
your chairs and desks properly and pick up chairs properly and pick up all the pieces of
paper scattered on the floor
all the pieces of paper scattered on the
floor.

D. Checking of Attendance

How many absentees do we have for Five ma’am

today?

E. Review

Class, can you still remember our lesson Yes ma’am

yesterday?
What is it class? Ma’am days in a week

Very good!

How many days do we have in one week? 7 days

What is the first day of the week? Sunday

Enumerate the names of the days in a week Sunday

in order Monday Tuesday
Very good! Wednesday

A. Motivation
Show a drawing of a girl with a pencil
and some paper clips in front of her.
Point at the girl and say, “This is Rose.
Rose has a pencil and some paper
clips. She wants to find the length of the
pencil using the paper clips.”

Ask the pupils these questions: • The girl in the picture is Rose.
• Who is the girl in the picture? • Rose has a pencil and some
paper clips.
• What does Rose have? • She wants to find the length of
the pencil using the paper clips.
Possible Answers:
• What does she want to do with
• The pencil is about 7 paper clips

long.
• The pencil is about 6 paper clips
• About how many paper clips do long.
you think is the length of Rose’s • The pencil is more than 4 paper

Very good!

B. Presentation
Lesson Proper

Everybody eyes on the board Student listen to the discussion

Class we will study the length using non-

standard measurements. Class any idea about Measuring object
length?

Very good!
When we say length, it tells how long an object
is or it is measuring a distance.

Length is a physical quantity that refers to the

measurement of the extent of an object or
distance from one point to another in one
dimension. It is typically measured in units such
as meters, centimeters, or inches.

For example, this pencil! This side is the length

of the board.
This pencil, this is the length of a pencil.

For example, if we are going to measure the

distance of this board, we will start to the left
and to the other side like this:

units. The measurement of those objects that
are not typically use as measuring tools, we use
such as paper clips, pen. Box, hand spoon,
pencils and others.

In measuring non standard units, we use big

units of measure for big objects and small units
of measure for small objects.

Again class, how do we choose a tool for

measuring?
We can easily compare the lengths of object
using non- standards measurements.
Another answer?
We use Ma’am big objects for the big units of
measuring and small objects for the small
units of measuring.
Very good!

C. Analysis

I will divide you into 3 groups. Pupils will group themselves.

Give them a chart to fill in with their

measurement.

Group 1 Each group will do the task assigned to

them.
Find the length of the desk using
handspan.

Group 2
Find the length of the desk using
chalkboard eraser.
Group 3
Find the length of the desk using pencil.

Group 4
Find the length of the desk using
crayons.

Each group will choose one member to

present their output
 Presentation of the output.

D. Abstraction

Answer the question

What are some objects that can be used to

measure length? Pencil, paper clips, crayons, pentel pen,
popsicle sticks, eraser, etc.

length are rulers, measuring tapes,
yardsticks, calipers, and measuring wheels.
.
E. Application

Direction: Estimate the measure of the

length of each object.

IV. Evaluation

V. Assignment
Estimate and measure the following object that is found inside your house. Use the
given nonstandard unit of measurements.

1.

______ Paper clip

long
2.
