Definition of Terms

AutoCAD – is a computer-aided design (CAD) program used for 2-D and 3-D
design and drafting. AutoCAD is developed and marketed by
Autodesk Inc. and was one of the first CAD programs that could
be executed on personal computers.

Layers – are the primary method organizing the objects in drawing by

function or purpose.

Units – It determine the quantity (as of length, time, heat, or value) adopted
as a standard measurement.

Scale – It is used to reduce and enlarges sizes of the object according to the
preferences scales.
Ribbon Tool Bars – A panel of reference tools according to their types, kinds
and use.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the lesson, you are

expected to do the following:

LO 1. Identify sources of information and relevant ideas to enrich one’s own

concept of 2D technical drawings.
LO 2. Draw preference setup
LO 3. Create simple parts by sketching outlines
LO 4. Create profile constrain and dimension sketched outlines
LO 5. Extrude profiles into parts
LO 6. View models from different viewpoints; revolve a profile into a part
LO 7. Draw 2D technical drawing using:
 Orthographic views

PRINCIPLES OF 2D TECHNICAL DRAWING USING 2D SOFTWARE

APPLICATION

There is a great variety of 2D applications used in creating 2D drawings. One is

what we called AutoCAD. In this module include most of the basic ones but sufficient
enough for your initial understanding about 2D drawing. 2D is an object with just
height and width without depth; therefore, two dimensional objects are flat.

AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting software

application. Developed and marked by Autodesk.

kinds and use.
INFO CENTER – Provides a web based experience directly or help within the
product. Internet connection is mandatory for this.
VIEW CUBE – Controls the display properties of the views. View cube
navigates display when you’re working 2D and 3D drawings.
DRAWING TOOLS – An endless drawing area where you can scale your
drawing in any sizes.
SCALE – It is used to reduce and enlarges sizes of the object according to
the preferences scales.
COMMAND WINDOW – The part of the CAD where you can input your
command and value.
WORKSPACE SWITCHING – Select here the working environment you want
to use.
APPLICATION MENU – To search for command as well as to access tools or
to create new files.
