The demand emission limits for EM 3A/EPA Tier 3 have been reached by
internal optimized engine combustion evolution
Without exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) exhaust gas aftertreatment (SCR)
NEW:
• Cylinder Head and cylinder block made from special casting due to the
increased internal pressures (OM502LA 1ATL only)
• Modified cylinder head and cylinder head gasket
• Pistons and piston rings (BR 460/500)
• Camshafts
• Modifications to the combustion chamber and the cylinder liners
• Premium materials for bearings
Extensive duration tests to proof the high durability and longevity of the
engines (B 10 to 15000 h, depending on load profile and maintenance)
NEW:
• Individual combustion process:
– New piston crown –W- casting will assist in reaching the new
emission limits according to EU 3 A/ TIER 3 without external
changes (BR500/460)
– Exhaust air turbocharger- some with wastegate, compressor
wheels are machined-cut or made of titanium
– Injection nozzles
– Camshafts with modified timing
– Internal peak pressures up to 180 bar
