This document has been designed to inform the selectivity analyses of the medium voltage
switchgear that is going to protect and control two shaft generators and two electric motors.
-D
These two generators are going to be used only to supply the two electric motors connected in the
same bus bar. The nominal voltage of the bus bar is 6600 V, but in variable speed DP mode can vary up to
18
3850 V at 35 Hz.
The electric motors are the bow and stern thrusters of a vessel and are normally used just for
ed
maneuvering and DP mode. On normal sailing, these motors are not necessary.

EC
The objective of this document is to establish the protection relays adjustments according to selectivity
-D
According to the calculations, the generators adjustments are going to be selective and protected
18
against any fault.
For small load with long duration, the protection will be granted by the PT100 in generators and motors.
ed
By the thruster starting characteristic, the fuses will be 315 A. Verifying the curve in item 4.3 it is
possible to see in 6,0 sec and 600 A the crossing of the generators and fuses curves, for this situation it has
at
been considered just the SR 469 curve, the fuse it is just for backup protection in case of short-circuit in the

motor.
