We acknowledge that we are located on the ancestral and
unceded traditional territory of the Massachusett &
Pawtucket Peoples. The Indigenous peoples of this land
never surrendered lands or resources to the United States.

We acknowledge this not only in thanks to the Indigenous

communities who have held a relationship with this land
for generations but also in recognition of the historical and
ongoing legacy of colonialism. Additionally, we
acknowledge this as a point of reflection for us as we work
towards dismantling colonial practices.
Hi everyone,

First and foremost, we want to say thank you for coming to our show. Supporting student theatre is
so important in creating a community at Emerson and allowing student voices to be heard. We are so
glad you are here!

Our journey with Hookman started when Erin read the play looking for a monologue for a class.
Though she didn’t find a monologue, Erin eventually found herself coming back to this play time
and time again. Struck by the amazing script, she brought the play to Sophie, who read it and also
fell in love with the text. Together they decided to co-direct and bring the show to life.

The main reason we both found the show so captivating was the amazing relevance it has to us as
college students. The characters in the play are both amazingly real and hilariously unreal, which is
exactly how this time in our life feels for so many of us. Your first roommate, your first relationship,
and your first house party all go alongside your first F, your first breakup, and your first death. This
show captures that in a way that feels so authentic to us that we felt compelled to put it on.

Once the show got greenlit, we were incredibly excited, but Sophie was also worried. As a disabled
person in theater, she has found productions at Emerson to be run in a way that is not inclusive to
those with health issues. So, with the help of Erin, she decided to create a Student Theater
Accommodations Process to help those with disabilities who may be working on the show. Though
it’s not perfect, it was so incredible to have the support of the Accessibility Team, and we would like
to shout-out the amazing Emma Alvarez-Roth. Having other disabled voices on the show was really
important to Sophie, and we are so thrilled that we were able to create this process.

As the process continued, we were blown away by the level of talent we had in both our cast and
crew. Everyone worked incredibly hard and put their heart into every second of this show. We hope
you enjoy our hard work, have some fun, and maybe learn something through watching this show.
Thank you so much for coming and we hope you enjoy the show!

Thank you,
Sophie and Erin
