11:32 AM I usually do a homework packet that I send home on Monday and have students return on
Friday. At this age I am just trying to teach them responsibility for the older grades. Choose an
afternoon when you usually stay back after school. I love that each month the kids have a chance
(with a few passes) for a certificate, lunch and being posted on the Honmework Wall of Fame.

about starting a HW club this year. We are hoping that it might be a motivator and serve as a catch-
up time for those who need the time. This will be my 7th year of teaching but will be my first year in
3rd, I'm buying this packet whether I win or not. So thank you for the inspiration AND the
opportunity to win. This would be a great addition to what we already do. The idea of just calling it a
club will make my 4th graders want to do it. I end up not even checking homework because of the
frustration it causes me and my students. I also like the idea of forgiving them for missing a couple

pinned this on pinterest earlier today and repined it. I did something similar toward the end of the
year, but this is geat to be consistent the whole year. Do you tell the kids it is a homework club, just
not that they can miss one or two. It’s a good idea to update this information every term to stay on
top of changes and to keep parents up to date with any new additions. If it doesn't come back the
next day, the student must take an extra from my extra box to do during recess or at home depending

Eastern Michigan University Author Visit. I think a homework club would help the students motivate
their parents. I have parents sign in each child's homework folder each night. But opting out of some

it is safe to do so. I try not to overwhelm my students with homework because I know at a young age

This will really help in keeping me organized with tracking homework. I tried a punch card this past
year, but it didn't work for me. You can click this button if you would like to be notified if we add
capacity. However, I also believe that we have to teach our students to succeed in spite of things they
may be facing at home and an easy way we can do that is to encourage responsibility when it comes

Still, we are the ones who are left to deal with it.:) This year, we are going to try doing a Fun Friday
activity for those who have no late work out.still working on just what the criteria will be to qualify,
but we are thinking of having guests in to share their talents and hobbies, board game choice days,
scrabble or chess tournaments, free choice day, movie day, cooking day, outdoors games or free time

tricky because, when students are young, if it doesn't get completed, it is a home issue not a student
issue. This is an opportunity for students to be successful with all of the work that they are facing in
a one-hour block. I really struggled on how to handle it with my kids this year since many of them

know this (so don't tell them!) but they can secretly miss one assignment here and there and I don't

forces to support local children and young people to improve their skills, build their confidence and
raise their aspirations about the future. I always see a drop off in the spring when soccer starts, so
