This Self-Learning Module was designed and written to help improve more of your
knowledge about Parallelism.

This module focused mainly on Parallelism. After going through this module, you are
expected to prove properties of parallel lines cut by a transversal.

A. Review/ Activating Prior Knowledge

1. Two parallel lines cut by a transversal form eight angles. This activity will lead you to
investigate the relationship between and among angles formed in a parallel lines cut
by a transversal.
Measure the eight angles using your protractor and list all inference or observations in

c.) In your own observation based on the given activity, can the measures of any pair of
angles either supplementary or equal can guarantee the properties of parallelism?

Parallelism

1.) Two lines are parallel if and only if they are coplanar and they do not interest. ( j ∥ 𝑟).

2.) A Transversal is a line that crosses at least two other lines.

a. The angles formed by the transversal with two or more lines are called:
1.) exterior angles (∠1, ∠2, ∠6, ∠5).
2.) interior angles (∠3, ∠4, ∠7, ∠8).
b. The pairs of angles formed by the transversal with the other line are called:
1.) corresponding angles (∠2 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ∠7), (∠1 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ∠8), (∠3 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ∠6), (∠4 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ∠5).
2.) alternate interior angles (∠3 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ∠8), (∠4 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ∠7).
