Track 11

According to police data recently released by the Crime
Survey for England and Wales, mobile thefts have fallen to
the lowest figure in ten years. They claim that almost half
a million people in the UK had their mobile phones stolen
last year. This is down from a high of nearly 900,000 in
2009. The police figures show that typical phone robbers
tend to be boys aged between 14 and 17. The group most
targeted by phone criminals is 18- to 24-year-olds, and
women rather than men are the most likely victim of
a crime. Unfortunately, very few of the stolen handsets are
ever recovered, so victims shouldn’t expect to see their
phones again.

Man: I can’t believe it. We only went out for two hours.
Woman: I called the police as soon as we got in. They
told me not to touch anything with fingerprints on
it.
Man: How can we know?
Woman: Well, they took jewellery from our bedroom and
computer equipment from the office. Also, we
know that they got in through the back door
because it’s open.
Man: I can’t believe I left it unlocked. Where are the
police? They should be here by now. They aren’t
interested in burglaries. It takes too much effort
to solve them.
Woman: Well, while we wait, I’m going to see if anything
else is missing. Remember, don’t touch
anything.

Man: So, what do you think?
Woman: Well, in my opinion, there’s no doubt he
committed the crime. The witnesses all
recognised him, and the money was found in a
bag in his wardrobe. I don’t think there’s much to
discuss really.
Man: Yes, but he says he was in the area when the
crime took place and that he found the bag and
took it home without looking inside.
Woman: And you believe him?
Man: Well, it’s possible, and the judge has told us to
be 100% sure. What about the rest of you? What
do you think?

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming. It’s great to
see so many people here today. Now I know that we can
win this election. Together we can make this country great
again. People say that the country is stronger than ever
before, but I’d argue that it’s weaker. Experts suggest that
we are all getting richer, but I’m convinced that this isn’t
true. I imagine that many of you will be looking at the
